It does not require a connection to any network, local (LAN = Local Area Network) or Internet. I use it on airplanes. I use it in the bathroom without a WAN. I use it in the car. I use it all kinds of places where there is no network of any kind whatsoever. Clear?

Most people don't need an airplane either, except when they do, and then it's not a question of airplane versus car anymore, even if both are made by the same company. You either need it or you don't, and if you are not aware that you need it, then by definition you don't need it.
