That won't work.

I agree the best thing to do is to post in the marketplace support forum and tell them what happened. Don't post the certificate number. Just tell them that you meant to buy it for someone and didn't do it right and ask how you go about assigning it to the right person.  They'll likely ask you to email them with the information.
