For hair textures, I found that making my own worked better than using photographic images. I used Kozaburo's hair tutorial but I can't find a link to it now. Apparently he thought the tutorial was out of date and removed it, but I found it extremely valuable. I still have the zip file of the tutotial on my PC. Site mail me if you are interested.
