Subject: Library WON'T open embedded in Poser Pro 2010

project_nemesis ( ) posted Fri, 10 June 2011 at 7:16 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 5:58 PM

OK, I've searched through the threads and this isn't a rare problem with Pro 2010, but previous advice doesn't seem to work; my library just won't open up embedded, and instead comes in a seperate window. The seperate window means I can't save new materials to it (comes up with an error), and it has trouble finding all libraries.

  • I've tried restarting everything relentlessly (including the library and poser)

  • I've tried updating AIR and Flash through IE and Firefox a few times

  • I've tried unblocking all parts of poser through the windows firewall

  • In the last few days I can't open the library except in a seperate process, and even the option to open embedded is greyed out of the Edit>General Pref>Library settings

HELP!!! (please)

To quote Microsoft, that's not a bug, it's a feature. However, I have no trouble saving new materials in this library... from the material room. What exactly are you trying to do when you "save a new material"?

The 64-bit version does not permit the embedded library, because the 64-bit Flash interpreter doesn't exist. (yet)

If you use the 32-bit PP2010, then you have the choice.

Updating Flash to get the external working is pointless - the external version isn't Flash, it's AIR.

Update AIR to get the embedded working is pointless - the embedded version is Flash, not AIR.

Now that we've got that out of the way, you can focus on things that might actually have a chance to work.

When you first ran PP2010, and Windows demanded to know whether or not to let Poser use the Internet, did you say yes or no?

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

A preview release can be found at this URL:

http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10_square.html

It works for me most of the time (with my browser, i did not try with poser).

SM have been testing that in the last few weeks for the next Poser. It crashes too much to be usable yet.

I honestly can't remember, I probably said no because my last Poser (7) got quite buggy in the cloth room when I let it update itself, so I probably opted to stop it auto updating things. Since then though, like I said, I've added exceptions to Windows security to let it communicate on network/internet as an attempt to get the library embedded.

It does do a weird thing where it puts some library stuff in the Program Files (x64), some are in the Program Files, and some to the Virtual Store hidden thing in Windows 7... which annoyingly means my runtime contents are in three seperate places.

I've just opened it in 32 bit mode; and the library's embedded fine. Does this mean if I want to use the library embedded I need to use it without access to all the Ram (6gb) and CPU (quad core i7) as it'll be limited by 32 bit? Sorry, I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to software architecture and the differences between 32 bit and 64 bit!

Thanks, PN.

Hah. Your phrasing in the original post misled me.

I had the impression you were using 32-bit and you had been using it but that it stopped working in the last few days.

The 64-bit Poser Pro 2010 does not offer the library in embedded form, only in the external form. It clearly says so in the manual, page 33. Adobe is still working on 64-bit Flash, but it's not ready to use yet.

Ah, ok that clears it up a bit. It seems to be using all the cores (4) and ram (uses 2-3 of 6gb, depending on the scene) ok through the 32 bit version so I'm happy specifying that.

Thanks for your help.
