I decided to check the reference manual for a better understanding of the differences behind the cameras.

I was unaware of this until now, but the Pose camera is actually designed to rotate around the currently selected figure, not the whole workspace.  The Auxilary camera - which I've never bothered with - serves as a compliment to the Main camera to give artists an extra camera to explore their scenes without having to compromise the Main camera once they have it positioned.

The Auxilary camera behaves just as fluidly as the Main on my PC, so now I have two cameras I can work with - the Auxilary to explore my scenes, and the Main to set up the shots.  Problem solved!
