I actually prefer handpainted textures a lot of the time, because I'm going for a painterly look in my work. I use Cindy's Rayme texture constantly (See link for latest use) and I'm pretty sure it's hand painted. I like the textures you're showing here...the brows and eyes are particularly good. The third texture's skin seems kind of cool and grey-toned though. In any case I don't think they're a waste of time at all. 150 years ago people said cameras would make painting obsolete and they were wrong then, too. :)
