Actually, the RAM of a video card DOES affect Vue or other 3D apps,because it affects how the app displays/stores polygons/textures while you use them on screen in real time!
there is a noticeable BIG difference in ease of use wth Vue when using 512 vs 1gb graphics card, when working with very complex scenes
otherwise you have to start turnign down the display quality with less than 1gb cards
However I think at moment Vue can only use up to 1gb ont he video card, or was tthat a limit only up to Vue8? :)
since Vue doesn't use GPU CPU for rendering (well, sort in Vue9 but it's not an issue), you are as well stciking to low/middle end curent gaming video cards, such as a GT240, they're cheap and 1gb avaliable for about £50 or £60 now? that's what I use
