Heard that.  Now try to find The Dark Knight Rises trailer which leaked before it's premiere.

Hollywood is all about movie sequels and remakes.  Rarely something original comes out.

And they wonder why cinema and dvd revenues are down!

Others in reboot hell include Godzilla, Total Recall and The Dambusters. Yes they're going to be politically correctand are changing the dogs/codename away from Nigger. Strangely enough all characters will still be smoking cigarettes.

Ok...wait. Isn't Dambusters a true story???

Why change the dogs name when that's what it was? PC is gone too far and over the edge...lol.

The last time I saw The  Dambusters on TV they bleeped the dog's name-heaven knows what people who hadn't seen it before thought is was.  Perhaps it will be Ginger in the remake, as that's an anagram, but that would imply some actual thought...

Dambusters they are changing the dogs name to Digger which they feel is close enough to keep things ok (it's only 1 letter away)

plus Dambusters is not exactly a remake. since the original B&W, new information's come to light with the declassification of wartime documentation.. things that were not available before.

You know there's a belief out there that the reboots and sequals are done because the people who make movies aren't bored enought to be creative.

Linkie

Hense we get a new robocop when the first one was just fine (sequals weren't that great though) and things like movie execs talking about Thor 2 or making another Hulk reboot when the last reboot was aweful.

Gah, that ripoff series keeps getting attention when the true and orginal Robertcop goes forgot... lol.

Keith ( ) posted Thu, 14 July 2011 at 1:10 PM

You know what's funny? All the people bemoaning sequels and remakes as if it's some horrible new thing.

As long as there has been fiction there have been remakes, sequels, reboots, and spin-offs. The Odyssey is a sequel to The Illiad, with The Aenaid a spinoff. Some of Shakespeare's plays were sequels to prior ones. You know the classic Ben-Hur? Well, do you mean the classic 1959 film with Charlton Heston, the 1925 film, the 1907 film, or the 1880 novel they were based on (which itself was a spin-off of the Christian Bible)? What we know of Norse mythology comes from the sagas written centuries after Christianity had taken over and is now suspected to be largely fanfic instead of what was actually believed.

Sequalitus has gotten worse in recent years.  That's the problem if you ask me.

I'm beginning to think "There's nothing new under the sun" ;). When they do a remake of "Aliens" I'm done with movies altogether...lol.

AFAIK, there are two Alien prequels, both directed by Ridley Scott.

The best, IMO, reboot was Batman Begins/The Dark Knight.  It's what Batman should have been all along.  Sadly, once the next Batman episode is done, it's going to be rebooted again.

Yeah the batman reboot was great.  Too bad they are using bane as a foe when they have so many villians to choose from.  I also liked the Tim Burton batman movies as well.

Well, being a black man myself, I don't necessarily want to hear the word, but aside from that, it's not like movies don't change the names, change the gender, or even create new characters when they're made. And they've been doing it for a long time. Scenes are deleted and some characters are combined to tell the story in a certain time frame.

That said, will it seriously change the overall story if the dog's name is changed?  If so, then I agree the name should stay the same. If not, then honestly, I don't get the objection.

everythings staying the same except for the dog is now called Digger, the callsign is now Digger and the added facts from the Disclassifised papers.

On the Off Topic of Reboots, I just saw a movie poster when I went to see the stupid Transformers movie last weekend for "Tin Tin". I thought THAT was a blast from the deep dark past until I saw this Link today for a Remake of John Carter and the Princess of Mars! Looks Smexy though so I'll probably go see it!

Well, let's not forget The Three Musketeers, with Baroque Steampunk Airships, swords, and no muskets (always wondered about that...;)

Hey, it's gotta be better than the 'two and a half men' guy version...though I'm showing my age, the Raquel Welch/Michael York version is fun (I think there was a B&W version with Tony Curtis, but I could be wrong...;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I thought the vampires and werewolves theme was done to death already (pun unintended) .  I have not seen a single full episode of True Blood nor have I seen Twilight.  They say it's a popular genre, but I say what ShawnD and Winterclaw said:  it's because they can't come up with anything original.  I was a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer though way back.

In my day, vampires and werewolves were bloodthirsty n dangerous creatures to be avoided. Not suave, cutsie love interests...lol. (remembers watching Salem's Lot as a kid with a shiver).

I was at the movie rental store when the first RoboCop came out on VHS.  A guy there with his little kid asked me if I had seen RobCop and if I thought it was too violent for kids to watch. I said Yes! I think that poor little kid was ready to kick me!

Terrymcg ( ) posted Mon, 18 July 2011 at 8:12 PM

Chris Pine walking around in a stiff robo-suit, killing people? - I'd buy that for a dollar.

D'oh! Why do things that happen to stupid people keep happening to me?

The way things are going these days the reboot will be even gorrier!

Reboots are becoming so prevalent that even recent movies and series are being rebooted.

I wouldn't be surprised if, in about 5 years, Harry Potter is rebooted.

It already has been rebooted on YouTube!

flibbits ( ) posted Sun, 24 July 2011 at 12:54 AM

That's a sequel not a reboot.

SteveJax ( ) posted Sun, 24 July 2011 at 2:39 AM

If you actually watch it it's not really a sequel. The premise is that the loosers go back to the beginning to kill Harry and they try to do it differently but it's still a retelling of the original story.

I remember when "some chik" was doing interviews for the opening premiere for Mission Impossible, and Peter Graves walks past her...

Man, did he rip her a new one =P
