You know what's funny? All the people bemoaning sequels and remakes as if it's some horrible new thing.
As long as there has been fiction there have been remakes, sequels, reboots, and spin-offs. The Odyssey is a sequel to The Illiad, with The Aenaid a spinoff. Some of Shakespeare's plays were sequels to prior ones. You know the classic Ben-Hur? Well, do you mean the classic 1959 film with Charlton Heston, the 1925 film, the 1907 film, or the 1880 novel they were based on (which itself was a spin-off of the Christian Bible)? What we know of Norse mythology comes from the sagas written centuries after Christianity had taken over and is now suspected to be largely fanfic instead of what was actually believed.
