Subject: Backsides of meshes don't render...why?

I'm not aware of a parameter or property that would help with that on a per-material basis.

However, it is possible to actually build a material that does that. I can think of some hacks that can be done with materials using the N or Normal node (tells which way something faces). But the N node is not relative to the camera, and so using it to test which way something is facing, with respect to the camera and not the world, is difficult.

Edge_Blend is a node that gives us an indication of facing the camera versus facing to the side, but sadly it was coded to give the same answer when facing away. 

Among the many nodes I'd like to see added to Poser, an Edge_Blend that includes positive and negative directions would be fantastic.

Then we'd just use that in the Transparency to make back-facing things invisible.


Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
