Subject: Texture Mapping New Character

Im experimenting with making my own Poser character (thanks to Bushi for his terrific tutorial). Im having more success than I thought I would but Ive got a texture mapping problem. Ive used UVMapper in the past on props and have had great success, but Im just not getting it to work on my character (I only have a Preview material). Ive tried it a number of ways but here is the one I thought would work best. I have my obj file finished. Run it through UVMapper, make a box texture map, save model to the proper directory in Geometries (make sure use mtl is selected), then save the template. Convert hierarchy, character runs fine but still no other materials besides Preview. Any suggestions, guys? Im pretty much at a loss. Thanks, Thoth

Poser makes a RSR file in your geometries folder automaticaly - not in your figures folder. Backup it and then delete it (only RSR not OBJ). Run your character again. Sometimes that works. Note: use white color on your bodyparts Hope that helps Chris

You need to set the materials up with the Poser 4 Grouping tool. One day I am going to get around to writing a tutorial for the grouping tool, its one of the most powerfull new aditions to P4. -Trav

With the latest version of UVmapper22b, you can assign different areas of your model to materials. Check it out. -JH.

If you're only getting 'preview' on the materials list that means that the groups in the .obj don't have associated usemtl statements. One way to fix this is to edit the .obj with a text editor. After each 'g' statement in the .obj insert a usemtl statement so it looks like this: g APartName usemtl APartName Run it through the Hier converter again and you'll have an item in the materials list for each of the parts in your figure. And thanks for your kind words about the tutorials. :->

Thanks, guys, for all your help! I'll take another look at it once I get home today. Thoth

Thanks for your help, guys! As usual for me, it was stupid human error. I made the Poser character then decided to texture map it. I didn't delete the rsr files et al that I should have before running the convert hierarchy again. UV Mapper did it's great job as usual. Thanks again, Thoth
