Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
I just noticed something that made my body hair spike on end for fear... each and every one of these face morphs - exported only head from Poser, imported into Zbrush, then back to Poser as a single body part morph - is shifting the entire head very slightly up. This isn't even noticeable with one morph used, but when you use many, the shift gets multiplied...
And now I have a few dozen morphs, already applied, but all saved neatly as .obj. Does anyone know how I can fix this, preferably batch-fix them all? And how to avoid future ones to do this?

Have you been exporting the object from Poser with "As Morph Target" checked?
I would try running a head through your import-export process, from Poser to ZBrush back to Poser, without making any vertex alterations in ZBrush. Just do the import and export part, then load this "blank" morph onto Antonia's head. If you get the unwanted motion on this morph, too, you can fix all the morphs by setting the "blank" morph to -1.0 and combining that with each of the problem morphs, spawning new copies.
If that doesn't work, I've had some luck cleaning unwanted motion out of Antonia morphs in the past, using a Python script. Depending on the nature and intensity of the motion, however, that may or may not work well.

I JUST thought to try that before you posted this, and yes, lack of ticking "As Morph Target" on was my problem.
What's that Python script, hmm? Do I need to know any scripting in order to use it? Is it even available?

The script is available, but the outcome for this kind of problem really wouldn't be certain. Ultimately, I think it would be easier to try my first idea. If the unwanted motion was due to export without the Morph Target setting, it should (hypothetically) by constant in all the morphs and also easily recreated for a subtraction morph.
The Python script is here, however, and it shouldn't require any special knowledge of the user. The script presents several different ways to trim from a morph some of the deltas but not others.

Definitely will, at least three different shapes of elven ears.
@Cage: thank you very much, both for the script and the idea... I wouldn't have thought to mix the morphs with a negative of the exported head as a morph. I guess I'll try the morph mixing, python still scares me a little bit... Thank you!

seachasaigh--i made some elf ear morphs a while ago, here's the link. tho they say antonia 1.0 they work fine on any version. (i just now edited the description to reflect that). however, we can always use more!!lost in the wilderness

ooh! i guess i can add my new render(only) machine! Win11, I7, RTX 3060 12GB
Sigh These little technical things make me so angry at times.
Ok, I tried the negative morph thing. Went to export. If I export As Morph Target, Poser ignores the morph and exports Antonia's face, morphless. If I export without As Morph Target, it reinserts the shifting right back to it. What do I do?

Yes, sorry. I should have explained. Set the morph with unwanted motion to 1.0, the subtraction morph to -1.0, and spawn a new morph. That should hopefully clean it up. The irritating part of the process is that you'll need a new morph name for the clean version, so you'll have to spawn a copy of that morph after deleting the old, bad one if you want to retain the original naming.

Umm. I'm not sure whether you'd get the desired internal name for the morph that way. Which may not matter, ultimately. Cage is just obsessive about trying to keep his .cr2s clean and doing what he expects them to be doing.

Had to fix the names in EditPadLite, yes. Took me a minute or so ;)
Ok, things fixed, cleaned up and I exported the face using As Morph Target to avoid all that trouble from now on. Thanks for your help!
Now, to morph that nose.

I'll make PMD files... those are extracted from a .cr2. So my .cr2 should be clean and the morphs in it should be correctly named ;)

I'll make injection .pz2's to apply the PMD. Nerd3d has a tutorial, I can't find the direct link because I get blocked to his site for some reason (had to use a proxy tool, went there and saved the tutorial to my computer)... Shouldn't be hard to find there though.

Every now and then I try to dial a specific shape to see if there's a morph control I still need. Now I tried making asian... I think it looks ok seing as I haven't made full face shapes or chin and cheeks morphs yet. What do you think?

I think that is looking pretty good. :woot: Thank you for making all these morphs! Antonia has been in need of an organized set of face-shaping morphs, and the body morphs are excellent.

Agreeing with Cage - you've thoroughly enhanced the whole Antonia experience with these. Keen to give them a whirl (and Phantom3D's new weight-mapping) - what an incredible character odf's girl is turning out to be!

Thanks guys, your words are keeping me going!
Later tonight I'll get the full-face morphs working, they move eyes and teeth around so I have extra trouble with those. Then I'll give you some previews of them ;)

Yeah, I know, the face shape makes a huge difference. I'll give it another try when I get them working. Thanks for the compliment too!

Better. the nose would be flatter and wider, if I got the image right in my mind. Regardless, you're creatinging some significant feature mods... just to say, I bought all of these:

...which has done wonders for V4's features. Something similar for Antonia is just crying to be created. Wish i knew more about making the actual morph target - mine have always given me "wrong number of verts" or some such fiasco.
I'm actually having another go as we speak - have a particular face in mind:

Hmmm I'll keep those in mind and see what can be done. Most of them I can't really notice by the preview what the change really is. Besides, I can't make a huge amount of new morphs, would get confusing and with a big file size... Luckily, I can make more than regular, because Antonia is low poly so morphs for her end up being small...

Look at kawecki's Filelocker if he still have his morpher online. This tool can repair the vert count by comparing the morphed file with the original one, IIRC.

Not sure it's still there. Hope he makes a new and imporoved one. This is the only way I ever re-imported a FBM successfully in and out of the Poser window without the vertex error (until now 2011). The downside of merging your morphed figure with an unmorphed figure is that you only get 50% of your morph. I mean, if you mix black and white, you only get grey. The chances of messing up fingers and toes increases if you export out of Posers window, also.
The safest way is to import object from geometries to UVmapper. Export a copy of UVs*.* Then Morph and resave. Import UVs and resave. This can then be brought in using "Create FBM or some other 3rd party py script .
Depends how the software handles it. I use Silo to create morphs, and for that I need welded OBJs. Silo removes unused vertices without notice, so usually the vertex count is different, I wasn't able to fix that with UV-Mapper.
The best option for me so far is the PoserMorphLoader from ColorCurvature, but this tool isn't available at the moment. I have no idea if he plans to rerelease it.

i use Blender for morphs, and i've never had a problem with vert count. that said, i used the Poser export settings i got from tutorials i no longer remember and are long out of date. probably for P4. and haven't really done much exporting for morphs since. that was a while ago. i got my Blender import and export settings from other tutorials for version 2.49 or earlier. i'm betting if you look up FBM and Blender, you'll get a pretty good tutorial by Paolo (Pret-A-3D, creator of REALITY), that can be easily translated to the current Blender and current Poser for the creation of the morphs. creating the FBM in a cr2 is basically a single menu item in PFE. that is, no real steps. for the FBM, i think i just grabbed the Geometries folder version. though the PFE help seems to say it supports partial mesh, as long as its grouped. i haven't played yet with converting that to an injection pose, but it should be possible. i'm just not sure i have quite the grasp of PFE yet that i should.
Edit: BTW, this is a single, full face morph for anime characters. Yes, my "Aiko for Antonia" will be included in my "Morphs++" for her. ;)
