Thanks for the tip on ScreeD. Indeed it makes a significant difference. Especially now I do not get glassy elven eyes in preview. However, adjusting the gamma correction down to 1.0 has made the preview much better.

However, it is not the right answer about the monitor settings. I am using the same computer sytem and monitor for both poserpro2010 and poserpro2012 and the render results for poserpro2010 were much richer. However, the gamma correciton adjustment has given much better results for both the preview and for the renders.

I too suspect that there is a wonky light affect going on in poserpro2012.

However, ultimately I think the problem is gonna turn out to be a bug in the openGL hardware... just my uneducated guess.
