Paloth, I am no expert, but things I have read indicate my understanding is different than yours. Perhaps you're right, but...

The point of referencing the external obj file is so that loading multiple copies of the prop does not load multiple copies of the geometry. Only one copy gets loaded. Same deal with morphs.

This was told to me by Larry Weinberg, creator of Poser, but maybe I misunderstood.
