More of a curiousity than anything else - I knew that UVMapper would read the embedded geometry in a .pp2 or .hr2 file, so I tried renaming a .pp2 with embedded geometry to .obj. 3DExploration, Art of Illusion and Carrara 6 Pro imported it just fine while Vue 6 refused. So, depending on the application, the 'trick' might work. It probably depends on how lenient the Wavefront (.obj) format import routine is. I suppose it might be a minor convenience in some rare cases. I don't see any advantage if you're only using Poser though.
Yes, provided that the geometry is embedded, renaming the .pp2 extension to .obj will create an obj. I didn't know about Vue's difficulties. I read about this in an old thread and when I tried it, it worked. It is mainly useful for extracting objs from pp2s with embedded geometry (and not at all useful for pp2s with links to the geometry folder*,* of course*.)
