Subject: Dynamic Clothing -- Only Able To Do One Section?

Hello all -- it's me again! =)

I have a question regarding dynamic clothing --

I figured out how to make it look like clothing is coming down off a person -- but here's my issue - I'm only able to do one item of the outfit...

Say for example, I have a scene, I want the dress to look like it's coming down. I can only select the "chest" section of the body.  If I want to make the abdomen area look differently, I click on it, it resets the chest part. 

How can I do this so I don't have the chest reset?  Is there a simple enough step-by-step way to be able to do it?

I'd appreciate everyone's input -- I so far have gotten the first half working okay, I just need everything else to blend in along with it. 

Also, is there a way to make clothing look like it's going "up" instead of down?  Thanks again all much appreciated in advance for everyones help....

There is a difference between conforming and dynamic clothing. Only dymanic clothing is designed for the cloth room.

That said, there are several ways to use conforming items in the cloth room, although the results are spotty.

You can export the conforming item out as a OBJ and then import it as a prop. This requires that you know a little something about how to create a constrained group so the item does not fall apart when you run the simulation.

You can also do as you are doing. Simply add another simulation for each body part you are tweaking. They will be cumulative.

Again, the results are variable, but I have made it work on many occasions.

Hmmm, basicwiz.  I reread the OP and there wasn't any mention that the clothing was originally conforming.  Agree that different parts must be assigned to different simulations, though.

Ragtopjonny you can add multiple parts to the same simulation just hit clothify again and pick the next part. This may not be the best idea but it can be done.

Hborre usually if there are body parts it's conforming. Dynamic is a prop and only one part.

The clues are there that the item is conforming, in that if it were dynamic it would be all one piece not have groups named after body parts like the "chest" that was mentioned.

Hi all -- should have been clearer -- it is originally conforming clothing I'm using.  I'll try both methods -- the export as obj and then I'll try Redphantom's.

Thanks for trying thoug hborre =). 

Just one more quick question on this though -- when I was doing it before with the extra parts, it didn't seem to want to work for some odd reason, so I'll try and export it as an object and then insert it in the library as a prop.

Ragtopjohnny, keep in mind, not all conforming clothing can make the easy transition to dynamic.  Mesh construction is very important in these cases, and they can behave oddly in the Cloth Room.

Thanks hborre -- so far, with the piece of clothing I've been using, I've been getting pretty good results, I'll have to post a render here when I'm able to shortly.   I just have to be able to now get it to properly save it so that when I go back into the scene after closing its still like that.

Is this a case again where I have to "Lock Actor" for it to be remembered when I re-open the scene after shutting down?

Don't panic when you save, and when you re-open it's wonky. Just go to the last frame. Everything will still be there in proper position.

True dynamic cloth is not grouped.  It is a single sided mesh object generally stored in pp2 format.

There is hybrid clothing which is a combination of conforming groups and a single group (usually a skirt) that can be posed dynamically.  CP has a number of hybrid clothing items for the G2 figures.

If you are using conforming clothing, you can only clothify a single group for a single sim.

There is tutorial that dates back to Poser 5 by PhilC on the SMS official Poser site that explains how to take conforming clothing and turn it into dynamic clothing.

Ahhh, okay, so I just go to the last frame and it's there....I was wondering what I was doing wrong all this time.  so far, I really like what I see even using NON dynamic clothing. 

I'll have to look at that tutorial though and see if it can really help me better --

Thanks for that tip on the saving part as well, but I will really look at that tutorial and see too what it can do for me....=)

Dynamic Clothing with Non Dynamic Clothes....Okay, here's an image of what I did so far with Elisa for V 4.2.  (I know what I said about Vicky, but then I found Elisa for her.....;-). Anyway, hope you all like my attempt at Dynamic Clothing with this mini-non dynamic piece.  I think the effects are really good so far....
