Dogs are not people, that dog is not feeling "guilty" - he's trying to tell his owner "please don't hurt me" (physically or emotionally, no difference).  Also pretty depressing that the guy uses the kennel as a punishment - what about when he brings the dog to the vet or a groomer and they kennel him?
