Subject: Antonia - Opinions?

Surely not, but I wouldn't think that's how you would distribute the morph anyway. I haven't used it (don't own the Poser Toolbox), but my assumption is that you would use the Face Putty, then export the head as a morph .obj. Right?

Quote - Of course the face room is more than just geometry. It is also texture.

Yeah, at least judging from Phil's page about Face Putty, it looks really cool but not as powerful as the Face Room.

IIRC, Anton had to pay to get Face Room support for Apollo.  It can't hurt to ask, but I wouldn't expect them to do it.   From what I've read, setting up a figure for Face Room compatibility is a rather involved and expensive process.  (And, of course, I don't remember where I read these things....  :blushing:)

Hmm, well, if that's the case, then as powerful as the Face Room may be, if it will only work on the included Poser figures and Miki, then it's use is rather limited. I had always assumed that the data files could be generated by the creators of third party figures.

Quote - Of course you can distribute the morphs you made, but I was thinking about the cage as a tool. After the script has generated the cage and the magnets, operation is just Poser push'n pull of objects. There are some supporting scripted commands. I admit I have not used it for a while.

I have posted a freebie to Antonia's Free Site "Dial-A-Nose_AP". A set of 25 nose morphs for Antonia 1.2 (Hi Res) or previous. Some are realistic (I hope), some fantasy. You can cycle through the morphs via one a dial in the Body. Packaged as a PMD injection. Requires P6 or above. The animation above shows 10 of the morphs.

Thanx, Les for this!

Yes indeed - thanks for Dial-a-Schnozz, Les (and apologies to non-Brit forum members who won't know what a schnozz is - but can probably now take a guess). I'm developing a character for a writing project, and one of her more prominent features is her nose. I'd started with V4, but I may try to transfer her to Antonia instead, since I think I'll get better results for less memory usage. This addition will be a great help with that.

(Note to self: convert V4 texture to V3 with Texture Convertor, then use the V3 mapped Toni...)

SaintFox ( ) posted Thu, 27 October 2011 at 5:32 AM

Thanks a lot for another body-part-dialer, Les, you know how I like these tools. I may be one of the few but so far I've been happy with Antonia's nose as I find it hard to make something for an adult women from the tiny child-noses many 3D-figures have (and don't let me get started about what is called button nose - this is simply ugly for adult people IMHO). It's always easier to shape a part that is a bit larger than creating something decent from a tiny bit.

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

Hmmm... the V3-remap is 'nice', but has some problems (note: doing a remap like this is a ton of work and very tedious - so I mean no disrespect for all the work dph did with this!)...

  • some 'coloring outside the lines' :) (uv-vert positions outside/larger than V3's - and thus outside the texture in some cases)
  • the UVs on the hi-res figure did not have Catmull-Clark smoothing applied when sub-divided (each 'new' sub-divided uv-vert is in a straight-line between the parent verts, instead of falling on a curve between them).
  • some general distortion in some areas

...I think I'm going to take a stab at remapping it (I'll let you know when I'm done if anyone's interested).

I have been working on another set of conforming earrings for Antonia. The last set was something of a disaster, and I had to make several changes to the first published version before it worked (and I'm still not 100% sure it is working correctly for others). So this time I have decided to be prudent and call for testers, before releasing it to the general public.

This set is called "Cherry_Rings_AP", and like the previous "RingsLL" set, features pseudo-gravity and alternate geometries. If you would be interested in testing the earrings, please send me an internal message with an email address where I can send the zip.

As this will be a freebie, you don't actually gain much by being a tester, except you get your hands on it before anyone else, and a chance to give feedback on anything you feel should be changed.

lesbentley ( ) posted Mon, 31 October 2011 at 12:28 AM

file_474714.png

Like the RingsLL figure, the Cherry_Rings_AP is something of an experiment, and a rather unusual way to implement earrings. It places all the controls for posing the rings and changing the geometry in the BODY actor. The figure consists of 15 actors in total, but only the BODY is selectable in the document window, or visible in the menus. Hiding most of the actors from selection has obvious advantages for a conforming figure, you don't accidentally select part of the conformer when you are trying to select part of the character. On the other hand this certainly won't suit people who's main style of working is to to use the mouse cursor in the Document Window. That style of working directly with the cursor and Editing Tools in the Document Window is something that is often disparaged, but I find it is something that I am doing much more of these days.

Anyway, I would be very interested to hear your opinions on all of this.

I should add that whilst the Cherry_Rings must always remain a freebie, I very much encourage you to distribute modified versions by replacing the geometry with your own geometry files. Also the prohibition on selling the actual files in the distribution is in no way meant to discourage you from using the same techniques in commercial products of your own.

SaintFox ( ) posted Mon, 31 October 2011 at 1:29 AM

I've used the hoops in a series of images,  once the bugs had been ironed out, and they worked fine. The gravity feature was a great help.

Looking forward to the new set. I can't positively promise testing time, but I'll do my best to have a look at them if that sort of off-hand commitment is good enough for you :).

I love the earrings, Les.  I don't know much about such things, but I think that making them into dynamic cloth would eliminate some of the problems of the pseudo-gravity, such as a lack of collision detection.

They're quite beautiful and fun to play with even as they are.

Quote - Les those earings look awesome! I love the way you allow the chain to bend.

Thanks GeneralNutt. I got to a point where I thought I had finished the rings, but had a nagging feeling that they were not really complete in some way. I realized what was missing was a way to bring a little life to the rings. The bending is via morphs, and only provides a slight bend. With the morphs applied at full strength there is a noticeable deformation of the link shape in a head and shoulders shot, but at half strength, or or in a torso shot, or an animation, the deformation is not really noticeable.

By the way folks, if you don't hear from my for a while, it's not because I'm ignoring you. It's because at the moment BT is providing me with the connection from hell. It can take hours, or sometimes even days to load a web page. Sometimes I get a brief window where the connection is normal, then it reverts back to being crap for many hours at a time. It's definitely not my PC, because the same thing happens to two other completely different computers, and at the same time. :cursing:

Any way, sorry for going off topic, but I really needed to vent.

But for those who may have already downloaded it, the missing eye texture is uploaded as a separate file.

And for the png that doesn't show in th epose folder, just rename the pz2 file to match the existing png.
