Subject: Making hair for Poser in Blender

So, I've been wanting to try to make some hair for poser figures in Blender.  I'm still learning the ropes and I have been messing with the particle hair option in Blender but have been having a bit of a hard time getting the hair to particle out right from the vertex groups I made off of the Victoria 4.2 head model.

 

Is Blender a good program to make hair for Poser in, or should I be trying with a different program?  Whats the best way to make hair in Blender if its fine?  And are there some good tutorials based around making hair specifically for Poser, or tutorials that helped you be able to make hair in Blender for Poser?

 

I've found a few tutorials online that went into basics about making hair in blender, mainly with the particle hair way, but none went into a lot of detail or seemed like they'd transfer well into Poser.

You can certainly make polygon based hair for Poser with Blender (as you can with more or less any modelling program).

Any other type of hair will need to be exported as a set of lines in OBJ format, which may be adaptable for use as dynamic hair.

I suspect that Blender's particle based hair isn't likely to suitable.

There is a fasirly decent hair tutorial on cgcookie.com. I've downloaded the resource files and will be reviewing them plus the video this weekend. It looks promising, but you never know. The more I work w/ Blender, the better I like it. I'll keep you posted.

I was just thinking the same thing earlier today. I'm a new user and learning will take a long time, but I like what I see already from a program I swore I would never use (was still 2.4x then) ;).

As for the hair, I agree - Blender Cookie has some nice tutes on it :). As for importing the resulting hair back into Poser, I wouldn't recommend it. Poser already has a perfectly fine strand-based hair system already. In Poser9/2012, it looks especially nice. Poser would only choke on imported strand-based hair from another modeler.

I haven't gotten far enough in my Blender training to attempt to make hair. Fact of the matter is, I've not gotten around to go into the hair room in PP2010!

I made up my mind that this is the year I would learn Blender. I've got other apps, but have never been very happy with them. Blender has always been a bit foreign to me, until the newer releases when they upgraded the interface with side bars for tools instead of the myriad of buttons they had in older versions. I especially like the control you have when modeling clothing. There is a tut floating around here on Rendo that teaches you to make clothing  using cubes to model, and then taking it into the cloth room for shaping. Very simple - very quick.  I am refining that tutorial with some fairly decent results. I plan to share it here when I am a bit more proficient.

I've been messing with the hair room in Poser as well (Poser Pro 2010) and it seems interesting but I've been unable to find any real good tutorials on making nice hair in it.  I found one for a Mohawk, but thats about it.  My only gripe so far has been that at least for me, getting each hair segment to lengthen and be the right thickness has been almost impossible.  I've also had the hardest time manipulating strands to curve and bend like I want them too.

 

I decided to try hair in Blender because the particle/polygon way seemed to be a lot more flexible and easier to manipulate the way you want it once you learn how to do it.

Blender is excellent and useful for creating, fine-tuning and grouping skullcaps on which to grow your Poser dynamic hair. It is a very good partner to Poser. It is also very useful for polygon-based hair, since the UV-mapping can be done easily and well right there in Blender. I expect you can also use the Blender morphing tools on polygon based hair, though I haven't done that myself.

Yes cgcookie.com are great to hairs but not in that alone :)
