Subject: What works in DAZ doesn't always work in Carrara

Crispycraft ( ) posted Sun, 20 November 2011 at 6:33 AM · edited Wed, 26 February 2025 at 10:54 PM

I've stumbled across this a few times and I have always wondered why something will work properly in DAZ Studio, but fail to work correctly in Carrara. Is there some minor tweaking that can be done to the item for it to work properly in Carrara? I don't know about the makings of these two programs with the exception of the fact that both are made by DAZ 3D and, for the most part, are able to operate the same type of files.

But every now and then I purchase something that Carrara will not operate, but DAZ Studio and Poser will.

Can this be fixed?

There are a few issues with content, but they can generally be worked around.  One of the strengths of Carrara is the ability to alter models and shaders to work.

Often shaders must be tweaked.  Too much highlight and shine are common issues.  Just open the shader and adjust.

If you have a poser model and it opens in Carrara without its morphs, they may be external.  I use poser to open the item, then resave it with external morphs turned off.  The re-saved item then contains the morphs, and it works.

If you have some more specifics regarding the problems  you're having, someone can probably help.

Klebnor, when you say "External Morphs" is this when there is a separate folder placed in the "libraries" folder that contains nothing but .pz2 files?

I purchased a morph item that has two "libraries' folders. One folder is to be placed directly into the "libraries" folder containing nothing but .pz2 files (injections, removal, and show) and the other is to be placed in the "pose" folder containing only one injection and one removal file that are linked back to the other folders .pz2 files.

External morphs are contained in a pmd file which is read by poser when opening the object.  Opening the object in poser and resaving causes the morphs to be saved with the object.

pz2 files should work, I can't recall any issues I've had.  What is the model or object, perhaps I have it and can check it out.
