Any change of Python version breaks .pyc and .pyd files from previous versions. The move from 2.4 to 2.7 has required a change from Numeric to Numpy, which will leave older scripts which used Numeric broken unless they're updated for Numpy. Python 2.7 introduces a few bugs, too, which need to be corrected (notably a bug in Tkinter's askopenfilenames, which requires a workaround).
