I really like the new version of the Freak, the original Freak was one of my favorite figures of all times--but I hated the big hands and feet.  Well when the Freak 4 came out that all changed as they created him with proper scaling for the hands and feet.  It seems to me though, that content producers aren't designing anything for Freak 4--there was a lot more for the original Freak figure.  Since the new Freak is essentially morphed off of M4, you'd think that ll the clothing sets would have Freak presets, but as it turns out, most of them only had M4 & Hiro 4 morphs--not Freak morphs.

Why is there so little support for the Freak?  Do any of you guys use him?

Well, to be honest, I think most of the original Freaks acoutriments were made my Daz ;). I don't think it had much non-Daz vendor support either.

I also love the freak 3 and 4, but alas not much made for the big guy.

I like the Freak but I think part of the problem is that the Poser scaling bug is still there and most content producers are Poser based. So they can make it but it doesn't always work with the scaling in Poser and then people give up.

Yeah, the scaling can be a right pain so I don't use him completely just some of his morphs. And magnets are a must, even with Unimesh fits. But he's still a favorite, without Freak 4 there would be no co-star for my current project. Well, he just wouldn't look the same and I probably wouldn't enjoy working on it so much.

Edit to add: See the guy in my icon, that cool dude arguing with a dragon? That's him. He's 1 and 1/2 parts M4/Morphus, 1 part Guy 4 and the rest is Freak 4. Sexy, eh?

There were some vendors that made things for the original Freak; Daz has some items, but I get annoyed when they continue to release clothing that will work with M4 and Hiro 4 but don't include the ability to fit them to the Freak.  It seems that the Freak can wear all the athletic attire and fantasy garb he wants, but when it comes to everyday clothing there is little available for him.  The Freak 3 had a better wardrobe.  I'm not really sure about how to convert stuff via Wardrobe Wizard in this case--since it falls under M4--but I've not really tried.  Ahhh, the WW, I'm not fond of having to do clothing conversions.  Of course all the texture maps that work with M4 will work on the Freak, I used an M4 map for my demo.

Don't know about Wardrobe Wizard -- haven't tried it recently -- but in CrossDresser I convert to M4, then use Lyrra's magnets to get the Freak 4 morph fit. Sometimes it works better than others, depends on which other morphs are in your character. I like to mix a lot of others in mine, so by the time I get anything working even half decently it's usually got magnets out the wazoo. 

Poser 8 on the work machine, now works great since it's running Windows 7 -- I absolutely hated trying to use it on XP. Might upgrade my home copy, that scaling fix is the biggest thing I like so far, but sometimes I still have to do it the hard way -- usually happens with characters I've morphed to be taller or shorter than standard Mike and Vicky. Oh, and you can get some pretty wierd and often hilarious results if you check the morphs box as well. 

That works to some degree but if you bend him the joints on the clothes start misbehaving still. I think. I can't stand the library so much that I mostly end up using Poser 7 still.

Yes. But that is above the skill level of a lot of people and Poser 2012 hasn't reached a spread that you can rely on people having it. I think there is a transfer to clothes option, as well but I am not sure. Otherwise you have to do it to all of the clothes, as well.

Hi IIRC was there a "morph follower" function in DS that made M4 clothing "bulk up" along with F4
If so that might explain why there was not alot of  separate clothing made specifically for the figure.
at any rate Freak 4 cannot be DEFEATED!

Daz Studio 4 Advanced still has the morph follower, but they call it something else now.  I've tried to avoid installing the new DS, I really want to do all my work exclusively in  Poser.  I bought magnet sets but I just don't get it, perhaps I need to work with that and learning dynamic clothing. I would expect that the new weight mapping could help with joint issues.

I must confess that at times conforming clothes seemed to behave better in Daz Studio, I might have to break down and upgrade to DSA4 some day.

With the lack of support for F4, it makes me concerned that there won't be a next generation.

If there is, it will be a Genesis morph as that seems to be the way things are going. Unfortunately unless the next version of Daz Studio is more friendly to my low vision, I'll have to do without it and stick to the Mil4 figures. Genesis is cool and so are all the new features, but not worth the eyestrain and headaches I get from trying to use it.

From what I've read in another forum, the morph follower is still in Advance, it's just called something different.  It is a different add on than the one that converts generation 4 figure clothing to Genesis figures.  As I've said previously, I'm not interested in repurchasing my Gen 4 figures just so I can use funky, unrealistic morphs.  If I get into Genesis at all it will be when M5 comes out--unless they find a way for him to work in Poser Pro 2012.  I will have to see what he looks like.  I like M4, but hated M3 with a passion; I wasn't into the skinny, runway model look of him.  It's too bad that they abandoned David; he was my favorite Gen 3 figure and was much more versatile than M3.

I love F4.  I have had success with using morcloth to put the morphs into the clothing from M4 and then just make sure the conform to scale is checked.

But that never looks as good as clothing specifically designed for him.  Oh wel lmaybe someone will weight map him.

I think the Freak 4 is one of the most neglected figures in Daz's 4th Generation figures.  I noticed they have a Genesis "shape" for him.  Perhaps Genesis will breathe new life into him, but I've not gotten into Genesis yet.

I purchased Gymrat Extreme for F4 over the weekend.  I'd wanted it for a while, but had for a while been away from 3D work.  I noticed that there are some dynamic cloth items from the Freak 4--but they only work with DS dynamic cloth and are more fantasy oriented than everyday types of stuff.

there are some dynamic M4 tshirts around the place that can fit F4 quite easilly and i have some that have seams around the edges and look very realistic.

I like F4 as well and have used him in one of my products, although at first glance they don't look like your typical F4 (I mixed in a little H4 to make one younger as well).

 :wub:  for the F4.  To make my mens a lil beefy(cake) i add a .2 or .3 of heroic body.

and use the Lyrra magnets to add heroicness to M4 clothes. 

i'm still trying to learn how to fine tune the morph follower parameters,
i don't mind if it takes longer to calculate for closer results.

They look so real! I could post that pic on Facebook and my friends would think they're people I know.  I have some magnets, but they are very mysterious to me and I have to admit I don't understand how they work.

but just thinking I don't really need the magnets.  Mor cloth can batch convert all my M4 clothes to have the freak 4 morphs and then if I just have the conform to scale checked which can be done from a python script that I have to do all the clothes in the scene then all is good.

You guys are right, even when I can get the clothes to fit the Freak 4 in Poser, for some reason problems occur when posing--this can be corrected in post work however.  I think that because the clothes work much better in Daz Studio 4 for him, I probably will be doing more of my Freak 4 images in Daz Studio--unless I'm doing a nude or just a jock or something.
