Quote - I think you mean conforming clothing, dynamic clothing requires a more specialised set of tools and is generally being made jointly with OptiTex, since the tools would cost over $10,000. However, it is true that the base Figure Setup Tools plus DS3 (they don't work in DS4) are the minimum requirement and cost only $30 less any sale discount or Platinum Club Discount.
TheHalfdragon - I agree with Richard .... I think you mean conforming, not dynamic. his comment about the change in the tools (figure setup tools to Content Creation Toolkit) from DS3 to Ds4 is also important for the OP to consider.
Unless I've been completely asleep at the wheel (which is always possible), you still need a modeling program, or somthing like the clothing creator toolkit from PhilC, to make the clothing objects to use with either the figure setup tools (DS3) or the CCT (DS4). There are no true modeling tools in DS.
I think the book you refered to is an excellent way to start! I believe as well as tons of content, you also get Hexagon and Carrara, along with some excellent tutorials. But, if the OP want's to make his/her own unique clothes and props, a program capable of modeling, UV mapping, and exporting to .obj format is required.
