I'm waiting for the new position for the goalposts (probably "oh you don't sell those therefore some nonsense"). Although really I'd seriously like to hear a simpler process for this than what I described.

Never say that. Just go forth and do it, and keep doing it until you start getting it. Nothing really magical going on with those rigs, just time and work (a lot of it).
