Subject: Poser dirt/rust *cavity* shader? - bagginsbill?

a cavity node would be an excellent addition to firefly. you could use it to drive other shaders, and create procedural mud/rust/grease/weathering/etc on objects easily.

however, since there isnt one - could you work around this by driving dirt and/or rust shaders with an AO node somehow?  something like the old 3DS QuickDirt  (which has been out for over a dozen years).

I know bagginsbill wrote one ages ago.. I'm not sure if it still works properly with the latest incarnation of poser though.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

This is a great question - and the topic was covered very well six years ago by my esteemed node buddy, Ajax.

I don't have time to try this myself in latest versions of Poser, but I don't see any reason it should fail.

Please have a look at this thread

If that doesn't satisfy, or you can't figure how to use it to drive some specific effect, call back.

there's one at runtimedna that I used to use by semidieu - dirty shaders but I can't see that semidieu has updated it or not for pp 2012 and it did quite a good job with rust and dirt at the click of a couple of buttons.

Esther, it's not just a dirty shader. It's a shader that is dirty in crevices only. Those dirty shaders are actually by my friend Olivier, not semidieu. Semidieu made a tool to apply them easily. Not the same thing, in any case.

Yes, you are right BB.  I did like them though and they were very easy for me to use, but without Semidieu's tool for quick application of shaders I would never buy those shaders.

PS I have them already though

excellent, thanks!!  the one on the left is more or less what im looking for, but perhaps with more of a variance in color - more 'rusty'. ill mess around with the AO node now that i know it can be done and see how i can tune the results.

one of you script geniuses should turn this into a Python script and make a 'QuickDirt' plugin for Poser with different presets for rust, dirt, weathering, tarnish, etc :)
