Right now, V4 and all the toys that go with it will satisfy the crowds, will do so for awhile - thus no impact on SM's bottom line at this point in time. But what about a year later, or 5 years on? What will be taking V4's place by that time, if there were no V5 or the like?

Certainly they could make money by having a foot in both programs. How much money remains to be seen, as we have no insight out here into how much of either product is making its way onto hard drives, let alone being used.
We can get partial indications on D|S (CNET shows 2.2 million total downloads of D|S for Windows, and almost 260,000 downloads for OSX), but no concrete numbers. No indications at all for Poser, however... nobody's talking numbers there.
