In order to make Studio appear more newbie friendly they went and dumbed down the default UI.  It bugged me at first too, but my motto has always been, "Push buttons, see want happens."  It took about two weeks of playing with it until I got a layout that I could work with.  The moral of my little tail is don't give up and don't be affraid to ask for help.
