I am reading it to get the back story
and it is interesting to try to guess which characters are the actual pre cursers
for main schools of major influence.
Being Muslim it is interesting to see how
much of the themes from "Dune" are so blatantly borrowed from Islamic practice with only minor name changes.
I think I will read "Dune" itself next but with a much better perspective on the Corrino's and Harkonnens.

Yup, the Fremen are taken wholesale, IIRC.  And a fine, honorable people they are, too.  It was Dune that opened my eyes to different cultures around the world.

Like you, I'm going to re-read them but I'll start with the House series first.
