I usually put shadow on just one light. Try putting off the shadow on the other light(s) you're using. And as Pervers says increase the shadowmap resolution. The higher the resolution the more detailed your shadow becomes. Finally to make the shadow smoother turn down the shadow dial. I usually end up between 0.5 and 0.8 depending on the picture.
