Someone mentioned over at the DAZ forum that the wording was similar to the announcement made when they bought Bryce. So I think it's possible they bought another program.

Maybe DAZ bought The Sims!

I agree that it would be very weird for a company merger to be hinted at this way. 

Though they could buy Poser without merging with SM.
