Not sure Apple fits the general thrust of your post. Apple's example has been to pick a technology (iPod, then iPhone, then iPad), develop it so that it takes the industry by storm, and watch other electronics manufacturers try to imitate it and cash in on the trend. Daz Studio is NOT on the Apple side of that equation. They were with Victoria, and they probably hope to be with Genesis, but there isn't anything "Applie-fied" about the program itself.

iOS is incredibly locked down.  The only reason that OSX isn't similarly locked down is that it it built on top of BSD Unix.

As a mac user, I would say that DAZ was attempting to build an Apple styled walled garden with Genesis.  What DAZ doesn't grasp is that for customers to go along with it, your product has to

1.  "just work"

2.  Manical attention to detail.  As I have stated to DAZ in the past, can ANYONE point to a single piece of software that DAZ makes that has attention to detail?  They release half-completed software & then whine (and delete posts) when people point out that it is half-completed.  The folks at DAZ need to get out of Utah more & see how products are delivered to market.
