Well, I use GC with a single point light and a white "filler" IBL with no map attached.
And the GC indeed "bleaches" the skin texture a little bit.
BUT...I simply use the EZSkin shader and set the saturation value to 1.05 in the HSV node.
For the attached demo I set the saturation value to 1.2 so you can see the difference better.
