I treat Poser as an adult form of playing with dolls. (sorry people) It provides a poseable figure that you can dress and place into any position (scene) you can imagine , and find props for.   I have done fake book covers for romance novels,  illustrated kids stories with catsle sets, storybook dragon and of course a princess and I will admit to some bondage and other porn.

 

I find it fast and easy to use and have done some projects roughing out action plans (storyboarding) for long animations as a commercial contract. 

 

Some of the artists here do commercial work using Poser as a part of their workflow.

 

I also use Lightwave ffor modelling things I cant buy or buy at a price I can afford.
