That's weird, I posted a comment but had not seen the pictures on page 4. So admirable and surprising special. Very impressive also.

Then I almost dare not to put this tiny little chapel, which is here in the woods.
Who wants, can burn a candle here, and do a prayer. It is a chapel in honor of Mary.
In Limburg, several of these are often randomly at an intersection or on a trail.

So beautiful Jacomina.

Thank you for sharing this Chapel.

Wonderful rooflines on that old mansion, Susanne.  And a widow's walk ... fabulous!  I love the shot of the castle through the trees, too.  Good stuff!

I love all the brickwork, Jacomina.  Wow.  Such variety!  It's a great shot ... but more is okay too!  LOL!

2nd building is the aptly named 'Manchester One', taken while on a shoot a few months back. I think the old building in front was originally a tram or bus shed, but it's now the home to the MOSI aeronutical collection. Lovely place to visit, with a amazingly diverse collection anything from a Japanese kamakazie, loads of 1950's planes, through to a studio model of the NCC1701-D and delivery bicycles. Best of all it's totally free. Literally next door to the Coronation Street TV soap set, though theres no public access to that.

The Song Winter Palace in Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province PRC (China). This structure was once the Winter Palace for the Song Dynasty built around 960 AD. It served as the temporary capital of China after the Ming retreated due to the Manchu invasion.

Here's a graceful little bridge which connects the grassy shore with a pavilion over the water. The pavilion is used for congregating, visiting, fishing, and for late evening interludes by lovers.

This particular lake is a crater lake called Seven Star Lakes. Each of the seven lakes has a boulder which split upon entry to the earths atmosphere. The boulder was a part of the comet which struck the earth and set it on its axis, leaving a boiling caldera in the north pole. The rock split into seven pieces and left seven impact craters which soon filled with water. What remained of that comet is now called Planet Mercury.

About 1,200 years ago, locals dug canals between the lakes so as to interconnect them. They reason for calling them Seven Stars Lakes, is naturally, because a star came to earth leaving these rocks and lakes in its wake.

What fun to be able to post two a week!  :)

We took a drive down to Mercer Island one day last week and drove around looking for interesting architecture and fun things to do.   Well ... we found fun things to do!  I wasn't so wild about the architecture.

BUT!  It's a challenge, so here's what I saw.  These are very expensive apartment buildings in a very chi-chi neighborhood of Seattle.  (Mercer Island is in the middle of Lake Washington.)

Hi cryptojoe, your images are so fascinating. The contrast in the first upload comes out great.
And the second one is so lovely, also by the interesting story behind this.

Hi Tara, your two photo's really are so different from any houses I've ever seen. Also the POV looks interesting to me.
In a way the houses/apartments looks uninhabited.

kgb224 ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2012 at 10:02 AM

Outstanding uploads Tara.

auntietk ( ) posted Fri, 16 March 2012 at 3:22 PM

I think most of the apartments are occupied, Jacomina, but of course I don't know which ones!  LOL!  It's a very strange neighborhood.  I'm glad it's different from what you've seen!  To me, that makes it more worthwhile, that I can show you something new.  :)

Finally I got off my butt on Thursday and stopped off in Muizenberg to try and get a few shots.  Not ideal, at least I got out of the house!

This is the Muizenberg Pavilion just of the beach, Cape Town, South Africa.

Still walking around Muizenberg.  Overlooking the beach is the teak clocktower of the imposing railway stationhouse, built in 1913.  As you can see, it is in need of some TLC, thankfully that has started.

My first one of this week, is from what here we call 'De Kluis'. (the safe)

I translated a bit information into english, hope it is well.

When I go to the city (by bike) which is the closed to do shopping, it's only about 10 minutes biking from our home.

The building was founded in 1699 by Princess Maria-Dorothea Dietrich von Stein von Salm (1667-1732), Countess of Geleen and Amstenrade. She wanted to be a military hospital (lazerij 'or leper house) to establish infectious patients to leave nursing. One part was a chapel dedicated to St. Lazarus. The building was the foundation is not meant to be safe. This is reflected in the fact that the safe (even then) was not isolated, but at a crossroads, which in those days was the designated location for an inn. Also misses the vault until the day the usual garden. Still got all the suspected military hospital during the life of the contract giver this special purpose. Thus, the safe in Schaelsberg in 1688 was commissioned by Count Gerard of Cartiels Hoen, the then lord of Castle Schaloen, reportedly in gratitude that he had escaped drowning. The Countess of Geleen may also have followed this example, probably a similar reason.

It has also a relation with that castle Schaloen, from wich I posted several photo's on my gallery.

Thank you for sharing the in formation of this building as well.

Worked on one of my practical photography tasks. A client comes to you. He wants to advertise his business. He ask you to photograph a building that is regularly used by the publick. The building must have more than one floor. You must also photograph the building different times of the day. Well of we went this morning and me my wife and kids ended up on Church square in Pretoria. While they sat in the car I went to work. I decided on the Standard bank as a bank is used by the publick. So here is a architecture capture of the Standard bank on Church square. It was also a public holiday so that is why i took a chanche to work on my practical task. Hope my client will be satisfied with this and other captures that i took today. I only arrived back at home after four. My first capture for this challenge for this week.Blessed day and week. God Bless.

Taken in the sun, a farmhouse, typical for this region of South Limburg. Here we call it a half-timbered house. (een vakwerkboerderij)
