Subject: Cannot install Apophysis

gunsan ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2012 at 2:56 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 8:54 AM

I have tried to install Apophysis again on my new computer (64 bit) but it stops. Says that all the .dll files not are plugins.

Anyone who can give me an advice?

First of all which version are you trying to reinstal and where did you download it from? There are some bogus downloads of Apo around.

You say again, so you had it installed before? are y Installing a  version in an old APO Folder or is this a fresh install. You say you have a 64 bit platform machine, I would suggest using Apo7x14 although they all should work but 7x is the latest.

Are you getting that Error when opening Apo or while running. I have had Plugin errors before when opening Apo(.dll xxx wont load/.dll invalid) seemed to always happen when Ijust added new Plugins or did some plugin swapping.

There are 100's of plugins available for Apo however you can not have all of them in the same Plugin Folder at one time. You have too many plugins in the folder at once and it will make the program unstable or it won't start. Try to keep it under 100 plugins in the active folder, also if you have just added some plugins they could be duplicates or corrupted on download. I'd check the Plugins folder first, also the name you give the Plugin folder important , Plugins3D for 3dHak or just Plugins  for v2.09 or 7x14.

Thanks for you answer. I tried to install 7.09 from Sourceforge.net

I could not come to install so no folder excists on my computer.

Is it better to download an earlier version?

Is there a special version for 64 bit?

I have not used Apophysis for several years but suddenly wanted again. I guess it has happened a lot during these years.

It's been a number of years since I first downloaded Apo but I remember that to get it to work right I had to download v2.02 first and install it. There is something 2.02 has that is needed to run all other versions I think, anyway I have 2.02, 2.08, 2.09 and 2.083dHack all in the same folder and they run fine.

I don't think there is a 64 bit version of Apo but Apophysis7x was develpoed to run with Windows Seven. I use Apo7x14 almost exclusively now, it can do everything all versions of Apo including 3dHack can do and does it better and smoother. Plus it's a single download, just download 7x14 and install and you are ready to go. Here is a link to Apophysis7x14 at sourceforge

i have the newest Version 7x 15C install on a 32bit machine without Problems ,but it's right load not all Plugins into the Plugin Folder

download from here

http://apophysis.xyrus-worx.org/

It's critical that the Plugins Folder has the right Name for external plugins to load. Like in 3D hack the Folder is called Plugins3d, for 7x14 it's just Plugins, not sure on x15c, I'll have to go get that one and try it.

Is it that some are not loading or none of them are loading?

Right, the DC Images plugin will give an error unless there is at least 1 BMP image in the Images folder.

The Cross plugin error could be caused by several things, a corrupted Plugin file or a duplicate Cross plugin. Also how many Plugins do you have in the folder, it varies but when you get too many plugins in the folder the program will start kicking some out, it wont always be the same one either. I would remove a few Plugins that get used rarely and see if the problem goes away.

I have run into Plugin load problems all the time because I have so many, 200 or so but you need to keep the number of plugins in the active folder to around 100 (and that number is not firm, it depends on the setup, OS, amount of RAM etc.) I keep 2 folders of Plugins, one Active and one for holding the rest of them, I will swap Plugins in and out of the active Folder depending on what I need to run the project. Xyrus has a Plugins Manager program you can download and add that allows you on startup of Apo7x to select the Plugs you feel you will need at the time but I found it to be a real pain in the ass having to go through the process every time I opened Apo.

Thanks all for your answers. I managed to install first2.02 and then 7x so now I can play a little again :-) One question thoug. When I install gradients, shall I make a folder for them too?

Spent the last 2-3 hours trying to get 7x15c to work and can't, at least it doesn't work in conjunction with my 7x14. Everything got so screwed up I had to uninstall 7x completely and reinstall to get 7x14 working again. Did some investigation over at DA where Xyrus the creator of 7x is and as of just a few days ago there were still problems with 7x15, not sure I want to mess with until it's stable. I am just now downloading his latest version of 7x15c with hotfixes that were added just today, see if that works any better, if not I'm just sticking with 7x14 for now.

Just add a folder called Gradients if there isn't already one and put the .UGR files in it.

Not sure you needed version 2.02 to run 7x but you definitely need it for 2.08/2.083dHack and 2.09. Apophysis7x is a complete different program developed by Xyrus based on the open source code of the Original Apophysis, they look the same but not really.

Well, finally got 7x15c to Load and run error free but I don't like it much. Kind of slow loading and sluggish running, at least for me, plus most of my older flames from v14 Look completely different and any flames 2.08/3dHack are basically useless. Think I'll wait til it's a finished version and try it again maybe when 7x16 comes out.
