From what I've seen, once you have 200+ models for sale (ranging from $20 to $5 each) you begin to see some money trickle in. 400+ models is prefered.
On the 2D side. Just making little cliparts in Illustrator or Photoshop and having 1000+ for sale at $2 each on a 2D site can generate some money. In a five year period, sales from a clipart store of that size can bring in $3,000 to $7,000.
I'm guessing photos bring in even more over time, as long as you keep updating them as styles change. Those $499 discs they used to sell (everything is online now) that had photos of every catagory/situation to use on product boxes.
