I don't use one myself, but have you tried a SpaceMouse? It completely controls camera pitch, yaw, zooms and rotations, and we support it in Poser.

Honestly, never heard of it before.

I purchased a Spacenavigator about a year ago, I would love the Spacemouse but could not justify the cost as a hobbist.  The Navigator is superb although it can be sensitive at first the control is so easy and natural.  Not only that, click a button and you now have the same control over a character just by selecting the body part.  I would find Poser so frustrating if I lost the use of the Navigator.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Quote - > Quote - > Quote - > Quote - I honestly don't know if this has anything to do with the update, but just thought I'd mention it... I made a bodysuit for Anastasia then tried to conform it. Everytime I tried to copy the joint zones from Alyson, poser would crash. This was after I had loaded the update, and I'd never had the issue before.

Ok, so it isn't just me.

I am having the exact same problem with Wardrobe Wizard.

I am submitting a bug report.  I would recommend that you also do it.

Submitted.

We're having a post release QA meeting this morning and will be talking about this.

Well,  John and I have been exchanging a lot of information for the past couple of days.  You guys are really on it.

Quote - I do love the mouse wheel zoom though, Coop! I hope you're planning to move other camera controls to the mouse as well like panning and tilting.

There are some additional mouse move controls in combination with the spacebar and ctrl and alt. They were already in P7 or earlier (press spacebar first, then alt or control and drag in pose window)

From the old reference card:

XY Translate Camera  Spacebar drag in window (M)     Spacebar drag in window (W)

Z Translate Camera  z-Spacebar drag (M)     Ctrl-Spacebar drag (W)

Pivot Camera  Opt-Spacebar drag (M)    Alt-Spacebar drag (W)

And most people seem to forget the direct manipulation tool (Bottom right tool in the toolbar). Which puts all the axis in the pose window for the figure where you can manipulate it.

It might be improved, but the basics are there

As a FYI, just in case anyone's Windows copy of Poser should crash, it would be most helpful if possible to collect some information about the state of the app, by following these steps:

  1. If a crash occurs and WER offers to send a report, choose 'Send Error Report' or 'Check online for a solution and close the program' (if you are not presented with this dialog you likely won't be able to exercise the following steps)
  2. Go to 'Control Panel' > 'Problem Reports and Solutions' (or quicker Start > "problem" > Enter, actual program is %SystemRoot%system32wercon.exe)
  3. Click the 'View Problem History' link
  4. Find the entry for the most recent crash for Poser (Debut, Pro) and double-click it
  5. Click 'View a temporary copy of these files' under 'Files that help describe this problem' on the problem report page (this option might or might not be available; WER is apparently not always able to capture the files we're looking for)
  6. Create an archive of those files and send it in to Tech Support
  7. You may choose to delete the archive from the temp directory once the report is uploaded (NB- the directory from which you created the archive will be automatically removed upon closing 'Problem Reports and Solutions', so don't close out until you're done collecting the data)

Mac users should always have the option to generate a report, which can be copy/pasted into a new text document and sent along in the same way.

It'd be wonderful if Poser just didn't crash of course- that's the goal- but if it does, that'll help the engineering crew figure out where things went amiss, and would be much appreciated.

PoserPython • Introduced new Python methods for creating, editing and deleting value operations (dependent parameters) Does that mean we can script ERC now? I have to investigate that. That would be "awesome".

Quote - Does that mean we can script ERC now? I have to investigate that. That would be "awesome".

That's the idea, yes. Let us know if anything is missing. Here are some quotes from the updated PoserPython manual to get you going:

ValueOp Codes

The constants below name types of value operations that can be attached to a parameter. The parameter then is either being set by a Python callback (kValueOpTypeCodePYTHONCALLBACK) or is being combined with another parameter through a mathematical operation (ERC) or a list of key/value pairs.

kValueOpTypeCodeDELTAADD
kValueOpTypeCodeDIVIDEBY
kValueOpTypeCodeDIVIDEINTO
kValueOpTypeCodeKEY
kValueOpTypeCodeMINUS
kValueOpTypeCodePLUS
kValueOpTypeCodePYTHONCALLBACK
kValueOpTypeCodeTIMES

AddValueOperation

Add a value operation of the specified type to this parameter. The source parm is a different parameter, that serves as key when valueOpType is kValueOpTypeCodeKEY or as operand in a math operation for kValueOpTypeCodeDELTAADD, kValueOpCodeADD, kValueOpTypeCodeDIVIDEINTO, kValueOpTypeCodeMINUS, kValueOpTypeCodePLUS and kValueOpTypeCodeTIMES.

AddValueOperation( valueOpType, sourceParm)

DeleteValueOperation

Deletes the value operation at the given index.

DeleteValueOperation( index)

NumValueOperations

Returns the number of value operations on this parameter. Return 0 if there are no value operations on this parameter.

NumValueOperations()

ValueOperations

Returns the list of value operations on this parameter. Return None if there are no value operations on this parameter.

ValueOperations()

Speaking of missing... this should have been included in the manual, you'll probably find it helpful:

ValueOperation Methods

    DeleteKey :
Deletes the key/value pair at the given index for a key valueOp. Returns 1 if the key was deleted, returns 0 if no key exists at the given index or the valueOp is not of type kValueOpTypeCodeKEY.
        DeleteKey( index)

    Delta :
Get the delta value of a deltaAdd value operation. Returns 0 if the value operation is not of type kValueOpTypeCodeDELTAADD.
        Delta()

    GetKey :
Returns a tuple containing the key and value at the given index for a key valueOp.
        (, ) GetKey( index)

    InsertKey :
Inserts a key/value pair in this key valueOp. Returns 1 if the key was inserted, returns 0 if the valueOp is not of type kValueOpTypeCodeKEY.
        InsertKey( key, value)

    NumKeys :
Get the number of keys of a key value operation. Returns -1 if the value operation is not of type kValueOpTypeCodeKEY.
        NumKeys()

    Parameter :
Get the parameter associated with this valueOp.
        Parameter()

    SetDelta :
Set the delta value of a deltaAdd value operation.
        SetDelta( delta)

    SetSourceParameter :
Set the source paramater associated with this value operation.
        SetSourceParameter( source)

    SourceParameter :
Get the source parameter associated with this valueOp.
        SourceParameter()

    Type :
Get the type of the valueOp.
        Type()

Do PLUS/MINUS/MULT/DIVIDE also use SetDelta() to specify the operand value? I see SetDelta() in the list and InsertKey(). Also, is there any sample on how to create a python function for the value curve? kValueOpTypeCodePYTHONCALLBACK .. this looks interesting.

Relax - Anastasia works just fine.  There is an issue with WW copying weightmaps to new clothing conversions to Anastasia/Alyson 2.

The problem is a WW issue - not an Alyson 2 issue.

wow, received a response all ready.

Quote - Thank you for contacting Support. You do not Pose Dynamic Hair. The purpose of Dynamics is to create natural movement based on specific forces.

You want Figure Based Hair, which there are several.

John Csaky | Customer/Tech Support

it takes a while to wait for calculations for dynamic hair.

it would be really really nice, if they poser could remember the positions of the guide hair in different frames.

poser can remember where the guide hairs are when i loaded it from the library, somewhere in the file it must store the coordinates.

Do you think John would pass the feature suggestion on to Think Cooper?

or do the feature suggestions die after first contact?

I suggest it needs to be rephrased as something like "I would really like keyframed strand-based hair, like dynamic hair but keyframe-able instead of dynamic"

But I'm not exactly on msith Micro's most-loved list, so maybe that wouldn't help :(

The cloth and the hair room go back to Poser5.
There are lots of requests to enhance both in the db now.

Time, priority and available manhrs will determine what can be put in future Poser versions.

But face, cloth and hair room are certainly on the too long "todo" list.

Prop hair, figure hair, and dynamic hair, all have different purposes.

Over the years all have been improved.

And idea's are certainly welcome.
Put them also in the RDNA forum.

PS, you know you can save dynamic hair in the library.
You know that you can run a sim, and save intermediate results a morph targets.
Creating morphs on the go would get you where you want to be.

And then saving the final result with the morphs to the lib.

If I understood your problem/sugestion right.

kValueOpTypeCodePYTHONCALLBACK is just the constant for Python controlled parms that have been there since Pro Pack, I think. You can see an example of such a callback in BendArmsByFrame.

All the other ones behave pretty much just like ERC/Dependent Parms in a PZ3 file. PLUS/MINUS/MULT/DIVIDE use a second parm as operand, DELTAADD uses SetDelta(). I'll have to do some digging to see if I still have some testing scripts around. to give a sample for InsertKey().

This is not unprecedented, every version of Poser I've owned from Poser 5 onwards have required 3 patches before the majority of issues have been resolved and also some content updates as well.  I am quite happy though that the patches are coming out as quickly as possible--in the past we've had to wait over a year for some to come out.

I am not sure how you quantify a lot but there have been some posts from people who state they are noticing some bugs in certain areas.  Of course most people who do not have issues don't post to the forum saying that they do not have problems.

I have been using SR2 almost from day one after it's release and I have no issues.  I did with the initial install but that was down to me making the wrong selections and it was easily fixed (if you want to ensure something is fool proof give it to a fool to use).  Having said that I am not a vendor so there are many areas of Poser I do not use so bugs in those areas would not show up for me.

@who3D

I run SR1/SR2 since the start of it in beta testing, but crashes have been very-very- few and very far in between. Talking weeks here.

What are your system and video card specs? Drivers? Firewall? Anti virus? Browser?

Chase Chrome through the back door and Norton is certainly not allowed to wash my Windows. => oeps word game here :-)

For Windows?? Run something like Advanced System Care free from iobit and let it deepclean your system.
Most issues seem more to be video card and or OS/Browser related then Poser related.

On a standard Windows system it runs like a well oiled machine.

The only real likely issue on this machine is the video card (rubbish ATI one that came with the PC). Otherwise this 4-core plus hyperthreading i7 with 8GB of Ram and win7 64-bit ought to do as well as my other PCs have with previous Posers, back to Poser 4.

I'm going to turn OpenGL off to make up for the rubbish video card and pray. I had to do that via Poser.ini editing previously, as the initial release wasn't stable for long enough to turn it off in the GUI :(

Fingers crossed!

I run Poser on 6 Windows systems from Xp32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit, all with ATI cards.
Even run PPro2012 on Inter Integrated graphics on 10" netbooks with 1 Single GB of RAM total.

Some preview refresh issues are possible with ATI/AMD CCC drivers 12.2 and 12.3 on some HD Radeon 5XXX cards.

But ???

Poser should NOT crash for that.
It never does here.
PS, all run in openGl mode. I never use Sreed.

Perhaps ungrading your video driver??

Fingers crossed,

I still hate my ATI card, but although AMD made it as hard as possible to find updated drivers I have - and that updated drivers for about half my computer at the same time!

Poser Pro 2012 has been mostly stable since... annoying slow at too many things, but MUCH more stable :)

My Nvidia based machines tend to get their video card drivers updated more regularly, even if I just wait for Windows Update to point out there's been an update! (not had that happen with the ATI card yet).

Cheers!

Allow me to further sugest ; Advanced System Care free, from iobit.

The free version is pretty-pretty- good- good.

Run the deepcleaner, and then run the boost section of the Advanced System Care Free.

It helps on all systems but mostly on older, and thus more polluted systems.

Not as happy as I am!

We spend FAR too much time working out why these things don't work. I actually already have a tendency to clean my registry, even defragment the registry from time to time, and this system has a nice new SSD for the Os and programs, so it's not very slow at most things. Pretty much just Poser, so far - although some old single-threaded software doesn't benefit from the 4 cores + hyperthreading in the way I'd LIKE them to!

** ROPE ROOM SUGGESTION**

Quote - The cloth and the hair room go back to Poser5.

**(I) I would like to see a dedicated "Rope" Room. **

Rope is similar to cloth and hair but it is a unique object unto itself, and I think much of the process to do it already exists.

For starters I would like to be able to specify two points, a diameter and then a length.

Then I would like to be able to go into the equivalent of a cloth room and add gravity.  Depending upon the length of the rope, the resulting curve should then droop realistically.

(II) A slightly more complicated version would take the above suggestion and allow the rope to drape over objects yet maintain it's diameter.  Imagine (don't know why I'm choosing this example as I work with sailboats) taking a cable TV wire in a room. Fix one point at the outlet, the next on the TV. Then specify a long length and have it drape over the couch, the coffee table, the computer, the sleeping dog, the cat, the goat munching your homework, etc.

(III) The next level would be able to add knots. There is a knot-Tyer program available free that has *.obj output,  but it is not Python coded. I would like to see something like this incorporated directly into Poser.

Here’s the link:

http://www.stevenabbott.co.uk/Knots/knottyer3d.html

(If I could add a place in Steve’s program such that I could import a jpeg to trace over that would be great; right now his graphic window is limited).

(IV) Finally, I would like to be able to draw a complicated rope path by hand and input it to a scene.

Here’s how that would work. Say, physically draw on paper the ‘squiggle’ that I wanted my rope path to look like.  Then scan it and run a centerline trace so I now have a vector that is one line thick (say eps or equivalent). Then take that single line eps, place it where I want in my scene, and then apply rope attributes.

This is similar to how I used to draw cartoons and import them into Photoshop/Illustrator in the late 1990s.

The reason I want to do this is that sometimes I have a scene and it frustrates me that if I printed it out on paper in 2D I could draw the exact path of the rope that I want in two seconds.  Since it's a print, the geometry would match if I could get it back into the machine. Given the things that I requested in I & II above that would give me a lot of flexibility in a short time.

The installer moves away your custom preferences if you select that option. They get renamed with a time stamp (time of installation). To get your prefs back, please do the following:

  • Shut down Poser
  • Go to  c:UsersAppDataRoamingPoser Pro  [1]
  • Move away ‘9’ and rename the latest time stamped folder (e.g. ‘9_2012_04_11 6_06_06 AM’) to ‘9’
  • Restart. Everything should look like before updating.

[1] For geeks: %AppData%Poser Pro, or %AppData%Poser if you're running Poser 9

Thanks for the tip. I just ran into this with the SR 3 update. It was slightly different on my Windows XP PC

I had to look under C:Documents and SettingsuserApplication DataPoser Pro

Alright, I tried to install the SR2 and SR3 file for Poser Pro 2012, sadly I keep getting error messages that won't allow me to install either of these programs. Any suggestions on how I can get these files to download? It always says An error has occurred while trying to replace the existing file DeleteFile Failed Code '5' access denied. I have no clue what that even means or what I can do to get it to go all the way through.

I have a Windows PC, HP Pavilion Elite HPE Windows 7 I tried to install SR3.2, all of em actually but the same thing keeps happening.

You should only need to install the latest SR. You are running as administrator, correct? Maybe a firewall preventing upgrading?
