I read (and re-read several times) your instructions. I have a follow up question: Where do I put the OUTSIDE RUNTIME FOLDER once I complete it? How will Poser know where to find it?Also what happens when I try to load Lights? Where do Light files go?
Also, I did not find any misplaced Runtime folders inside Poser, probably because I have not bought hardly any content for Poser since I don't know how to load it. However, I would like to get started acquiring more Poser content but I need to get a handle on how to manage those files first.
Hi again! :)
I put it on your "D" drive (*or your secondary drive). How much space do you have to set aside for your Outside RT? Create your folder name it something like My OSRT, so that it does not create conflict or confusion. Set up your "Tree" folders in there. V4 M4 Lights however you are going to seperate it.
Then when you download a file, download it to the folder that you have designated for that item. A light set will be downloaded into the folder called Lights, etc. Since you do not have a lot of content, why not create your OS RT and do a fresh install into each of your tree folders? Then you will have them in the correct folders, and when you unzip them, thay will just stay where they are!
How will poser know... Well it does not matter what version you have, all versions have this little + sign at the top of the library in poser. You click on that and a window opens up, you just navigate to your outside runtime, select the file you need and load it! After you are finished you can leave it there for future work or just delete the folder using the - minus sign next to the + plus sign. Once you do this once or twice it will be like second nature!
The lights can either live inside of poser, or in an outside folder as we discussed. If you have very few light sets, or ones that you use all the time, it is fine to just load them into poser. If you want them to live in the poser program, just open your light set zip, it contains a folder called only "Runtime", copy that folder, and then paste it into the poser folder where the main runtime lives as I mentioned before, and it will install all by itself, you need to do nothing else. Don't confuse yourself by opening the folder and thinking you need to move or fix anything. It knows where to go and what to go into! :) If you do get a "bad" product, where something is missing. Sitemail the vendor, let them know that it won't install and they can help to trouble shoot it for you. Or I am sure it would be fine to post here, usually if there is an issue with a product, more then one person will be aware of it.
So recap, just reinstall all of the content you have purchased to a new folder as a fresh install
Open the zip and copy/paste it into the location of your choice. (*Outside RT, or Poser RT)
Your lights load in poser, the icons vary a tiny bit from each version, if you let us know what version you are using, I or someone can post a SS of where to select your lightset! I own 5/6/7/PP2010/PP2012 so I have most of the versions.
Anything else don't hesitate to ask. Remeber everyone starts off at the same level. Don't panic, it really will come to you, it just sometimes takes time to get all the details straight!!! ;)
