One thing to be careful of when attempting to observe CPU use and deduce whether it is single or multi threaded:
Even a single thread jumps around from one CPU to another - the OS does this to distribute heat more evenly. If a very busy thread stays on just one CPU that part of the chip heats up.
So - just because you see multiple CPU involved over some short period of time doesn't prove it is briefly multithreaded.
If the reported total utilization is around 25% on a quad core, it is almost certain (or at least far more likely) that the process is completely single threaded, even if it seems to use all 4 cores or 8 hyper threads.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
