Do windows updates, do not use SP3 along with DOTNET Framework 3 it causes a glitch. If you did download it there is a link on how to remove DOTNET Framework 3.
Make sure you have all of the critical updates though. Unless you know what you are doing the MSConfig is a set up extension, and you probably should not be messing with that.
You might be able to fix alll of your issues by doing a System Restore back to a very early point when things were working on your computer. (*say a month back) it will not delete any of your files on your "D" drive. That might fix everything for you.
I'm not aware of any coupons, but you might try going to the SM site and Chatting with a rep about any promotions going on.
