it is texture you render.
Some are pretty angry when I write this:
But a mesh is just a wireframe to hang a texture on.
But yes, I morph and re-rig the mesh.
But I keep a close look at how the texture behaves.
Just pulling and pushing points around does not work.
You have to keep an eye on the texture when you do that.
it is an interaction, between texture, mesh, and rigging.
Ignore one of them and you are ***
I often go in and out of Poser, Hex, Picture Publisher, to X check, untill satisfied.
