To explain my point of view: I like to make characters and look-a-likes and facial expressions with V4 and I love the versability of the head, which is made possible by the big amount of polygons it has. Generally I start with dialing until I have the shape or expression I want and use Zbrush for tweaking and making some finer details. When you have shapes like eyes, lips, noses and ears, you just need finer details on the mesh, so more polygons. IMHO only small skindetails like pores, wrinkles, moles, freckles  are suitable for textures. You have to fine-tune the mesh with bump or normal and displacement maps, but a good mesh can do without that.

Bopper.
