Subject: Renderosity prime New feature - Upload Choices

Froggy ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2012 at 1:14 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 3:59 AM

Hello to all those who can change policy here at Renderosity.

I uploaded an image today with a question attached to you in the title "A Question to the Rendo Policy Makers!"

As we probably all know Rendo prime membership allows (amongst other things) 3 uploads a day instead of one. But at a fixed 512 Kb each.

What I would like to know is why we can't choose to have 1 render a day at 3 times the size/density? (eg 1536Kb) instead.

That way we could fit more into each scene (eg make it more interesting) without sacrificing too much quality, or do the same sort of renders at a higher quality.

Can anyone in charge answer this question, as I for one would like to see this feature. It is very frustrating to have to reduce quality to below acceptable levels when the scene is very sparcely populated to begin with.

I would renew Prime again just for that feature?

Hell, I'm paying after all so I would expect you to implement this (it can't be difficult can it? as soon a spossible.

I have had some positive feedback on this already. I (we) think it is a good idea. It's logical and we are your customers.

Please advise.

Kindest regards,

Karl (Froggy)

Image sizes are 4000 x 4000 and 512 kb in file size...that is quite large, and allows for alot of detail. A larger file size really wouldn't show much more detail but would increase the time it takes to load and become viewable to the memberbase.

So that, and due to the amount of graphics being posted on a daily basis..its already graphic intense, and we do want our dialup members to be able to enjoy the site as well.

Thanks for the suggestion tho ;)

Mmmm, I'veheard ideas get "poo pooed" regularly here. Increasing this file size (to over 512k) would make a difference., but I guess your just saying no aren't you!

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2012 at 2:42 PM

Ideas from the memberbase are implemented all the time Froggy, and we take all suggestions seriously.. and they are discussed. The suggestion of larger file sizes have been discussed many times over the years...and it still comes back to the graphic intensity of the site.

We have over 600 images uploaded 'per day' in certain galleries alone, not to mention the amount uploaded in total in a 24 hr period.

We are already addressing loading times due to the amount of graphics..and adding to that load is simply not the logical thing to do at this point.

Im not saying 'no' period..Im saying no 'at this time' 😉

MMmmmm (again) I prefer quality to quantity. Why not have a policy where files are deleted after a certain time period?

That would allow you to have a larger (better) file size (=increased quality) ans would address med/long term storage issues too?

Cheers

Karl

Content Advisory! This message contains nudity

frog, try postmyimage.com, as they allow free posts of jpegs up to 5 MB.  these can be linked in various ways, as shown below (512 KB).  may also work in gallery here.

poser undercarriage benzo render

p.s. the thumbs are usually so good in the gallery here that one can decide whether to load a giant image, and dial-up users wouldn't, as mentioned below.

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Tue, 26 June 2012 at 4:11 PM

Its not storage issues, its loading time issues. Those with slow internet speed would have a horrid time viewing the galleries...so we have to do as much as we can for as many as we can across the board.

It might be different if this website catered to those who needed large files for commercial printing of posters etc. and such, but thats not the case here..we allow images to be posted for viewing, so we have to keep the file sizes down and accomodate as many as we can. 😄

The gallery system wont allow images to be linked like that, but you 'could' use the description area to link to a larger image posted on that site 😉

yes, that works o.k., jumpy.  it won't add to the server load here, but it allows a much larger image to be used.  I noticed they allow 1 MB jpegs at poserplace, but I don't know if I'm a member there.

Q: What % of Renderosity users are using 'dial up'?

LilRedWagon ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2012 at 8:10 AM

''The suggestion of larger file sizes have been discussed many times over the years.''

YEARS being the operative word .... It seems odd that MOST other sites have LONG since 'increased' their upload file size limits? What are they doing that Renderosity isn't?

It might also be 'helpful' to get rid of the silly 'thumbnail' policy for 'nudity' here if Renderosity it truly sincere about 'helping' out 'dial up' and 'broadband' users ....

If this site is set up to 'default' to NON NUDITY viewings (each member/user would HAVE to OPT IN or TURN ON 'nudity' when 'joining' to see 'nudity' or 'violence', etc. uploads), then those who do see the myriad of 'nudity' thumbnail tags only (instead of seeing the actual upload immediately) wouldn't have to spend 'time' clicking on 'each' one of such just to view it). IF you're truly 'concerned' about 'time' members spend viewing your marvelous galleries .....

It might also be 'helpful' to set up your 'favorite artists' notices like Deviant Art does ... There, when you sign in to your account, one sees a 'block' of 'all' the recent uploads of a favorite of yours and one simply clicks on the front pic of said 'block' and immediately sees 'all' the recent uploads in full view instead of having to click on one after the other after the other ....

Just a few 'suggestions' .... LRW.

1649 artists currently online

It seems that the 'number' of viewers is trending way 'down' recently'.

It may help to listen to members' suggestions more often? LRW.

LilRedWagon ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2012 at 8:28 AM

Froggy: Many members have tried 'suggestions' over the years .... Many have since left this site or frequent it far less ....

I'm reminded of an old saying: "Don't confuse me with the 'facts', my mind's made up".

LilRedWagon ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2012 at 8:31 AM

Froggy: To those who don't buy from the 'marketplace', they are second class members here, basically ....

What is 'forgotten' in this 'assumption' however, it that those like LRW and MANY others who VISIT this 'marvelous' site and respond to other artist's uploads and talents KEEP said talented artists/members going BACK TO the Renderosity 'marketplace' ....

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Thu, 28 June 2012 at 2:46 PM

LRW, please do not make statements that are not true. We value ALL members here whether they buy from the MP or not.

We DO listen to our members suggestions. Just because every suggestion is not implemented does NOT mean we aren't listening.

Froggy's suggestion has been noted, and I'll leave this thread going as long as it stays civil.

my estimate is 40% of them are still on dial-up.  some may have no choice, even if dial-up costs the same as broadband, if they're in an area with no broadband coverage.  they could buy satellite service, but that might have installation problems in some areas.

Tallpockets,

I'm not sure why if you feel so strongly against Renderosity you choose to have not one but two accounts here?

Your assumptions are wrong. The constant negative commentary is not necessary and certainly not productive.

The OP suggestion has been noted and will be discussed within the admin team.

Making your site cater fore the lowest common denominator (eg dialup users) , whilst a most noble undertaking, will certainly "hobble" alot of your members potential/expectations I think.

It's a strange policy to me given the latest information above and one I can't quite come to terms with. Sorry, but i just don't see the sense in it!

I daresay I agree with tom.  if they started pitching a feature where users are allowed to post 2 MB pngs or jpgs for an extra $5/mo., it would look like sucker bait IMVHO.

Interesting comments one and all. I'm not throwing my toys out of the pram, I just don't get it at all. Nevermind, it hasn't stopped me posting still and probably wont. I can't help feeling that more "lush" renders could showcase the products sold here more effectively.

And why not have a tiered pricing policy?

Just because we can't ALL afford items/services past a certain price point, doesn't mean we should deny them to everyone else, does it!

You are a business after all. If enough people are willing to pay for a service, shouldn't it be provided. Time (and the market) will tell. Invisible hand economic theory tells us as much. Someone, somewhere will provide a "thing" if enough people demand the "thing".

The supplier will get rich from it, but we all benefit. Wether Rendo provide the thing or not is for time to decide ..... and rendo of course  :)
