The light will strike the outline of the character at oblique (shallow) angles if you place the main light behind - relative to the camera's view - the character, such as having an infinite light apparently coming from the moon.
As for the values, that may take some experimentation to get the degree of effect you want.
Some SSS in the skin shader could enhance the effect.
