Wonder if it will mysteriously vanish in a week or two?  I feel like a pattern of that at RDNA has developed over the years.  Who was there last revolutionary original girl?

More productively, I ask, how do the face morphs work? Are they each independent and complete unto themselves (like Apollo)or is it a system like in V4 and M4 where you've got control dials set to manipulate lots of other dials to create the morphs and expressions?  From a developement stand point, I'd much prefer the former, as it means that I could just morphing clothes the morphs into masks, facial appliances, facial hair, etc.

I hope she does not vanish in a week or two. She just arrived in the store after years of work. ;)

They are each independent and complete unto themselves. I like doing it old school! My introduction to Poser was a over a decade ago with Poser 4. I liked the way the face morphs worked then. I don't see a need to make them over complicated. There are "expression" morphs that do combined facial expressions but, even those are independent morphs.

I don't like it at all. Why do all Poser figures have ugly feet (except Anastasia)? They look like two chunks of meat on a tree stump. And her rear end is square. Sorry if that's not you're opinion, but it is mine ;). I hate to say it too, but not all modelers should try a human figure and should stick with what they know. Otherwise, I like all of Tate's stuff.

Flame on ;)

Laurie

tate ( ) posted Wed, 25 July 2012 at 5:22 PM

That’s Ok Laurie. You are most defiantly entitled to your opinion. I honestly don't expect everyone to like her. In my defense I did add a bunch of butt morphs and feet morphs so the end user could get a look that suits their taste better. Plus I put a ton of body shaping morphs and, character morphs in there too. I understand that not everyone will like the style I like. I did my very best to give the end user options to make her look the way they would prefer.

Also, thank you for liking all my other stuff. ;) It makes my feelings a little less hurt. :D

Thanks

LaurieA ( ) posted Wed, 25 July 2012 at 5:29 PM

Well, I love your other stuff...lol. It's just that MOST modelers - and I don't mean just you - but a lot of others I don't like their humans but I do all their other stuff. I apologize for being so blunt.

Laurie

Netherworks ( ) posted Wed, 25 July 2012 at 5:43 PM

Well, all I would say there, Laurie, is that I feel we put in many options to give Michelle a variety of different looks so if one wants different proportions, style, realistic (or surreal) options... I think that can be accomplished within the package. I completely feel that Michelle meets the design goal of being a stylized human figure, which was Tate's intent and how Michelle is touted.

Even if that doesn't go far enough for some folks, it is a mesh, well just like Alyson is, and can quite easily be built upon.

Everyone needs to expand their horizons if that's where their artistry takes them.  I don't think I'd be at where I am now if 10 years ago I just continued to do what I was doing then.  Not nearly ;)

I respect and appreciate your opinion though. :)

Footnote: I was constructing this post right while Tate was posting :)  I am a design lead for Michelle if anyone has technical questions or whatnot.

(in response to Joe's post)

I just hate a figure with ugly feet...lol. I don't know what it is :P. There are very few that have feet that are even acceptable (to me). Vicky 4 has hideous feet. And I don't use her very much, other than GND4. And when Gabe's Anastasia came out, I couldn't believe how cute her feet were (and everything else too...lol)

I'm tired of buying figures too. There are so many I've bought and never use. If I had just a small handful of good ones I'd be a happy camper.

For my own part, I'd probably NEVER do a human figure, no matter how good I got at modeling. They are too hard, we are, as humans, too familiar with every glaring fault, and I know my limitations ;). If I did the toon thing, I would probably be a lot less harsh. For a toon figure, Tate's Michelle would do. But I mostly use Aiko for that ;).

If it's any consolation to Tate, I haven't liked something about nearly every single figure that's ever existed since Poser 4...lol. I'm too critical I guess or I just expect too much. Either way, it limits me a lot more than it does everyone else, heh.

Lives there a 3D model that is good enough? I work with the human form for a living. I don't think she looks that bad. The feet are funny. Feet take more work, hence higher cost. Anastasia is more expensive. I am a very happy owner of her.

Michelle comes to the markes well supported with clothing and hair fitting. Something not always the case. And probably the death knell for many a promising figure. I put her in my cart for purchase next week. I have a budget to work with. Maybe I'll ask the folks at Poserworld for some outfits.

Thanks to the design team at RDNA. Good effort, and I hope you reap the rewards of your obvious hard work.

Hey Laurie, it's cool and all.  I'm not going to take offense to anything you or anyone else posts.  Whether I agree or not, I think you are absolutely entitled to your opinion.  Blunt or sweet, I will take anything you have to say constructively and the team is receptive to what you have to say :)

One of the reasons I wanted to be involved with this, and with other figure releases here and there, is that I think it's important to give folks options.  You know, choices along with the "lead figure out there that you know who that is" and we don't intend to see Michelle part of the figure dumping ground.  Michelle promotes both legacy and the current capabilities of Poser and we felt that was very important too.  Several folks are involved and you haven't seen everything yet.

I want to try very hard to not make this a "selling" post to stay within the TOS so I will stop here but again, I'm always glad to address concerns or technical queries.

Clearly there has been a lot of effort and planning gone into this with additional products available at launch.  I don't dislike what I see, so far, and I think having a crossdresser license is a real plus.  On the other hand she does not look a must have, at least not straight from the box.  I am intersted in the added morphs allowing her to be customised so I think I am going to hang back and wait and see what others are able to do with her.

I am going to follow her progress with interest though.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

Thanks for your efforts guys! 😄

I like the fact she has poseable toes... look forward to seeing some more character / textures done for her I hope... although looks like you've got a good range for starters there. She looks like she has a good range of feature shaping morphs there too...

Hopefully PhilC will get on board with some Wardrobe Wizard support for her too, in due course?

Thats a very good looking figure.  A little more stylized than I generally am drawn to, but if there are morphs to scale the head down a bit in relation to the body, she's not too stylized.

Great to see good support at launch too!  A very nice addition to the poser figure landscape.

As I see there are some clothing made for her already,  can anyone speak to how easily(or not) clothing can be set up for her.  I've had moderate success rigging clothing for antonia and poor success rigging clothing for alyson2/anastasia.  I'd likely be mostly interested in rigging clothing for the weightmapped version.

Good to see she's out at last and I hope she does really well!

Laurie - know exactly what you mean about feet! Ana's the only one with good feet and the other GND women aren't bad either, but they have horribly curved spines. It's a real shame AS didn't do anything to improve the feet for Alice or she'd be the best all rounder for me.

Honest question:

Why does nobody clean their meshes before release?

This is the XYZ time I see a zillion Polys on the spine.

Please clean your meshes and remove pollution.

Critical area's have too few poly's and the spine has a ton too many.

Look after your poly distribution.
Please.

Also the neck is way too thin in side view, her head will fall off.

Sorry.

Anybody that is serious about building or testing, should see things like that.

If you are interested, we have set up a support forum (which can also be used for kudos or whatever if you'd like) for Michelle at RDNA under the (regular) "Poser" forum as to not burden Renderosity with help requests.  Certainly it's not somewhere you have to be, but encouraged so that any concern you might have will be addressed in a timely manner.

Thanks!

Seems very easy to me so far, I'm working on a set of everyday lingerie for her. Had to make very small, quick adjustments after taking my mesh to Setup Room and applying the included blank. Haven't tried anything weightmapped yet (no WM whatsoever so far from me i.i) but I will in the next few days, because I plan for my clothing for Michelle to work on both versions.

LOL! That was really funny or I'm just really loopy at this point (probably both).

I think that would great as well.

There are actually 3 morph injection systems available.  You have PMD, which is pretty much there already for any figure.  There are 60 Community Channels, old school (you can actually block these out if you never intend to use them) and there is a spin on the readScript system that we see with DAZ' EXP.

Before that sounds shocking, basically Michelle's Morph Dials get "frontloaded" with 2 readscript calls (just two, not a network of them) so they come in blank, hidden.  It's designed to take new morphs (as is, without changing the internals) and I'm setting up a script right now that will build the system for your product (or freebie or whatever) if you use a blank cr2 (provided) that carries your morphs.  Anyways, it will be a free tool for Michelle.

The reason that this script wasn't ready ahead of time is that I erroneously thought that there were already tools out there that could pop the morphs out of a cr2 that works in a modern edition of Windows and doesn't insist on putting PBMCC_blah_blah in place of all the internal dials.  Solved. :)

Okay, I just got her.  she's great actually.  Lots of polys around lips etc for clever people to make things.

Her cranium slope can't seem to be adjusted and does slope back a bit for my taste.  her head is too egg shaped too for my liking - a bit like that SM character - was it jessie I seem to remember.  I can't yet find how to adjust this.

There a reason that that mess was done the way it was... it allows it to be easily become anything the artist wishes it to become... which is why it's so popular. You start sculpting all that detail into it, it becomes harder to morph for the average person without having a tool like zbrush to pull out that detail to make it into something else.... so you end up with morphs that just look similar to the original mesh... a lot of the other characters that are out that vendors want supported have this very issue. Hard to morph faces and bodies = no additional characters for people to buy.

Actually her posture is quite poor, though realistic for a lot of women. My problem with that is that I do a lot of dance renders and it's difficult to make the GND lasses into a convincing shape for a professional dancer because the spine curve is very apparent in different poses. V4 is much better in that respect. However, V4 has absolutely terrible feet while the GND women have great feet.

There's no need to get wound up about it in this thread anyway. Some figures are just more suitable for some purposes than others.
