Case in point, take a look at this post by FSMCDesign, the Dino scene took 18 minutes from start to finish:

A typical Lux scene takes a fraction of the lights necessary for a biased renderer and that means less work and less tweaking. BTW, other renderers like VRay have the same time requirements and VRay is used extensively in the VFX industry. Like with everything, practice helps in finding the fastest workflows.

I looked at that, and it said 18 minutes to hitting the render button, but 7 hours to render!
