There may be another way of doing this but here's my version. I click on the little arrow, bottom right, & then select the group that I want to move. I added an image of it.

I should have remembered to mention that after all the clicks, I use the Repostion tool to move the object.. I'm sorry.. Some mornings it takes my brain longer to get into gear then others.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try them out.

Yes I use the reposition tool, but sometimes it's just not accurate enough, I use the select via ctrl + right click to choose what to select from the list, then either reposition tool or I move it with the mouse usually from top view for moving things large distances, then from front and left (or right) to get it really accurate.
I only use the 'A' attributes and typing in exact numbers if extreme accuracy is necessary.
I don't think I've never been able to select a model. Unless I've accidently left the model as 'locked'.
I don't like using the 'select mesh' or 'select group' method, (Ravyn's method) as it usually takes forever to scroll down to what I want and it scrolls so fast you can hardly see what's there. So I can't easily find what I want.
eyeland,
I don't know what you mean by 'hold down a key' I've never come across that... I don't think. How do you do that?

Fran - If you use your mouse by placing it directly on an object to move it, holding down the x,y or z keys will limit the movement to only that axis (direction will depend on whether you've selected object space, world space or camera space).
P.S. Just realized I'm logged in under my alternate Renderosity id (I use it for my photography posts), but I am also eyeland...
Oh hello eyeland's double. Lol
I'll have to try that later, I don't want to rollucks up the long render currently creeping along. It's on antialiasing... and has been for quite a few hours. And I started it this morning. sigh.
By the way I like your animated icon for your eyeland ID. I've been doing a load of eye related stuff for a corridor in 'The Palace of Pealand' - hoping that it looks spooky, or slightly threatening.

Yup, here's the Great Hall of the Palace:
and the Hall of Eyes:
Back on the subject of moving and selecting things in Bryce, I just had Bryce continually crash on me when I tried to select one of the palace walls. No idea why, and I can't look at the wall to find out, cos I can't select it. Weird.
It's not a biggie since I can always load the wall up again as I modeled it in Wings not Bryce, I just thought it was weird.

Oh yes, we likum de weird pils. Actually I'm just finishing up some rather old stella, but the Hall of Eyes is part of a long project of mine, so I don't think we can blame just the stella.
Glad you like it.

Quote - Don't know why you're experiencing the problem you described, but I have been using Bryce for many years & have never moved objects in the way you described - because it requires holding down a key to control which axis to move along (which I find clumsy). Using the Repositon tool (circled in red) allows you to move objects much more conveniently & reliably, along any axis, by using the mouse alone.
One problem with using the Edit tool bar translation tool, (object move tool). It will allow moving the object in all directions except down. I have tried to get the object to move down using this tool several time to no avail. It just doesn't like that direction. Also, when I want to place an object in a specific position, that tool is pretty much useless. Numeric values in the attributes panel are marginally better, but sometimes grabbing and dragging the object in the scene window is the only way to put your object where you want it.
I too have this problem with the object deselecting when I do this sometimes. It seems that it is a problem that still needs addressing for later versions of the software.

You use the same method I use, Fran. Switching between the views gives me way better control over where I want to position my objects. Another thing I do to keep a series of objects from changing their positions relative to each other is grouping them together before moving them. If I still have Boolean operations to do after they have been positioned, I can always ungroup them, do the Booleans, and group the ones I want affecting each other together.
Stay awesome!

Yes, and the great thing about grouping in Bryce is that if you ungroup them (and while they are grouped too!) they retain the names they had before grouping - unlike Wings3D's grouping (actually called 'combine'), which destroys the names in favour of the name of the uppermost mesh. Grrrr!

Why is it I can sometimes click on an object to move it and sometimes I can't? When I click on the selected object it unselects instead and I can't select it by clicking on it anymore I can still move it by clicking on atributes but that doesn't always help.
