Quote - > Quote - So I'd say that those who alter their bodies to make them more beautiful know exactly what matters. People care about looks far more than personality. Some of us claim that we don't, but when we're tested, it turns out, unconsciously, we absolutely do.

I was tested. And won. LOL. I found that the more you love someone, the more attractive they become to you. So it all works out in the end ;). It just so happens this guy (not too pretty but loaded with everything else) had two attributes I DO like: dark hair and blue or green eyes. LOL

When Isaid "test", I meant that when pretty people are put out on the street and they ask for help, they get it from strangers more often and with more enthusiasm than if they are plain or ugly. Various experiments of this sort have been replicated endlessly. There may be confounds: perhaps plain people just aren't quite as friendly in their manner of asking for help.

When that confound is removed by using photos and people are asked to do various things for them online and so on, the results are pretty much the same.

Also, when people are shown photos which have previously been rated as attractive, they also rate them as more honest, kinder, more intelligent, even when given no more information than is available by looking at them.

So sometimes people think they are valuing people for their personalities, but they've already decided they like their personality before they ever knew them -- and they had judged them solely on appearance right from the start.

It's an unconscious bias. Humans have many such biases, such as the one that favours youth. I'm not saying it can't be overcome or that everyone has it or has it to the same degree. But I think it's wise not to deny that it exists for the majority of people and that it can have a rather profound effect on people's lives.
