Yes, you need to use the Polygon Group Editor. With that active, click on the surface of the item you want to hide. Right-click it and select polygon assignment -> create surface from selection. You can then set that new surface to Null in Reality. Also handy to split a surface up. That is what I did with the table top, created an outer rim.
