With most point-and-shoot camera's you shouldn't really go pixelpeeping. You'll notice the artifacts of the smaller sensors and probably the jpg artifacts (assuming you don't shoot in raw, or even if your kodak supports raw).
But you also have to consider if you're ever going to see that grain if you print it. Let's concider an 8x10 print. You'd still print over 440dpi. You're not going to notice any grain in that unless it's really bad.
35mm @300dpi gives you a very small image of around 413x275. I can believe that would yield a low noise image. To get anywhere close to the resolution of your kodak you need to scan at atleast around 3000dpi.
To minimise noise in a digital camera try to keep de ISO setting as low as possible.
Can you post an example of the noise?
